In the fall I'll be attending Pace University's NYC campus and I'm super psyched. I've been going to NYC twice a year with my parents basically since I was born, but I've always done stuff with them so I haven't been worried about my own spending money, or I've saved up some of my own money to go shopping or do other fun little things around the city. But of course, this time around I'll be on my own. I'm getting a job at TJ Maxx this summer, which pays about eight dollars an hour and I'll be working around fifteen hours per week. I'm starting next week and I believe I'll be working for a total of ten weeks - so $1200. I'm wondering if that'll be enough? I have a decent meal plan which includes neighboring restaurants, not just the cafeteria. Ideally I'd like to go shopping every so often, mainly fashion week/FNO, and a few concerts at the Bowery and other similar venues. Nothing major, though. I can, if I want to, get another part time job, but if I don't need to wear myself out so much, I'd rather not.
Or, how much are others who have or will be living in NYC for college taking with them for spending?

isn’t the average rent in NYC over $2000? So you’re paying off a month’s rent using 20 weeks of income. Doesn’t sound like a very good deal.

I sounds think her parents are paying for everything but spending money.

It just depends what stores you shop at. Concerts at the Bowery can be cheap, so if you don’t spend a lot on clothes, I think $1,200 can be feasible.

I live in NYC and it is indeed expensive. It all adds up, the shopping, the necessities, the concerts, anything really. Ur lucky u have a good meal plan, there are a lot of free things to do in Manhattan and Brooklyn too( you just gotta look for them lol ). You should be fine with what ur making if you spend your cash wisely haha. Good luck, it sounds like you know what ur doing
