For a reasonably social person, $1-2 thousand is probably typical for the entire year. That number could easily be under 1k for highly disciplined folks or upwards of 5-6k for the big spenders (my freshman roommate felt the need to outfit the dorm with a 52inch plasma and Bose surround sound. Gotta take what you can get I suppose). I guess that comes close to $1-200 hundred per month, but you’ll spend more in certain months, especially the beginning when you’re getting the dorm set up. It could also be less if you’re using a FLEX account to cover things such as groceries. I was a frosh in 2006 so I could be forgetting that more things are covered for you as a freshman living on East, I’ve been accustomed to living w/o a food plan so there may be others better suited to answering your question.

What kind of things do you guys tend to spend money on? (ex: do people tend to go out to eat a lot? Is the mall a common hang-out place? etc.)

Eating out at the restaurants near campus, alcohol, groceries, alcohol, cover fees at clubs like shooters, alcohol, buying stuff online, probably a few drinks here and there at clubs and bars, concert tickets if you are into that stuff, gas money, movie tickets, etc etc.

I love how you mentioned alcohol 3 times. LOL ^

I guess those of us who won’t be drinking much will save a ton of money then hahaha.

^ possibly, I’m just giving all the possibilities for spending money, feel free to pick and choose.
