Sport Management Major Questions

Hi-my son is a hs junior interested in pursuing a sport mgt major at Temple Univ. I would appreciate any info about the program from students or parents. I am also curious as to how difficult it is to be admitted to this major. My son scored a 28 on the ACT but his gpa is not strong-3.5w/2.9 or 3.0uw. He does take mostly honors and 3 APs. His extra curriculars are very strong and he has an internship in the VCU athletics dept for the last 3 yrs, thanks in advance for any info!

dont know about major. act sounds all right for Temple, i think they lean towards weigthed gpa so they will use 3.5 i think, check the admissions website on that issue though.

Thanks for your post! I will check the admissions website about the gpa issue.

your welcome, Also, feel free to contact professors in that dept, We did so liberally for 2 other depts and most profs were very receptive to this. i;d start with the dept head and in addition to asking them questions about dept generally, see if they will check to see if any students in that dept are open to communicating with prospective students and parents. you can also ask admissions if they have what i think are called student ambassadors for that major you that your son can talk too. Some of the majors have more competitive entrances but i’m not sure whether this is one of them, i think ACT will be ok for many majors at Temple though(other than nursing)

Here is a quick little article about the Sports Mgt Program from Dec. 2014, it is ranked #1 in the nation.

hi zebra!!! do you know how hard it is to get into? is that your kid;s major?

Thanks so much for the info and the link-great info!

Yes, that is my child’s major. She is a freshman and came into Temple as an undeclared. She has only started the major this semester and taking the Fundamentals of Leisure (or whatever it is called) class. I can not speak to how hard it is to get into as I think she might be in a different situation as a student athlete.
