How can I go about working for a sports team and what can I major in to help them. Is it possible after a while that I will have a high position and maybe even manager?

Thanks

Well you can get a Sports Management degree, I guess. But I'm pretty sure most sports team managers don't have this degree.

What I would recommend doing is looking at schools business programs that you're interested in, and seeing if they have any sort of internship opportunities with sports teams in the area. If I can remember, SDSU had some sort of internship program with the Chargers, but this was a while ago.

But thats just what I would do. Its hard to say what major exactly would help you because alot of it is based solely off of connections.

Experience is the most important thing. I agree that you should get a business degree as you can do many things with it. If you heart is in sports then get an internship in a sport organization.

what kind of business degree?

I know a couple of students in my college who got full time jobs after being marketing interns for the Sacramento Kings basketball team. They said marketing is big in the sports world. Accounting is the safest concentration. You can get a job anywhere with accounting. It is hard to get into the sport business. So accounting as a backup is a good plan.

I would double concentrate in accounting and something else of your choice. Marketing is one of those good choices. It only takes an extra semester to double concentrate if accounting is your main concentration unless your double is in management information systems.

I talk from experience. It will take some time finding the job you want but having a decent job until then (accounting) will only help you.

What's the best concentration in business to climb the corporate ladder in a sport's team (preferably baseball) up to General Manager?

Probably management or marketing.

If my concentration was management, what would likely be my starting position on a baseball team coming form a top five undergrad business school? Should I be expected to work at a front office or possibly scouting?

More likely sales than anything else. You have to prove yourself in the industry.
A HYPS education won't win you many favors in sports
