Spouses working together as petroleum engineers

My long time girlfriend and I are seriously considering starting a course in petroleum engineering within the year. Our main concern however is that as petroleum engineers we may be forced to work apart. We're very attached, and so this is a major concern of us.

Does anyone have any idea about the probability of working together on the same jobs in a non-office setting?

a) Seems like a valid concern in a career where you have to live in odd places. I wouldn’t like my odds of getting a job in the same room as a peer if I were in any field really.

b) I wouldn’t base my major around it. A lot can happen in four years.
