How exciting to see the acceptance and welcome video! D was accepted for Spring Entrance... not sure if that's a good thing or not? They make it sound like it's a privelege, reserved for 50-60 students who have studied abroad (true for D), done an internship, been involved in research, etc. It sounds like they appreciate the independence and initiative such students have shown, that they may not be in need of the "hand-holding" of fall term? Or is it just a way to get a few more students in who they might not have had room for first semester? (The letter mentions that they have a lot of students studying abroad second semester, so the dorms might have more space?) Any thoughts about the transition mid-year? Everyone at MHC is so friendly; it makes me think that adjusting/making friends won't be a problem.

Is Spring Entrance one step up from being waitlisted? Or is it actually a good thing?

my daughter was admitted for the spring semester a couple years ago.
her high school gpa - 4+ weighted
her sat - high
she was able to use her ap 5 scores to supplement her credits for a semester.
she currently is holding a 3.9 gpa at mhc.
she is getting the opportunity to do undergraduate research at a major university during the summer with a nice stipend.
make no mistake… this is a select institution.
i am a proud dad.

KSAMom - when we got the packet and I read through all the information, I felt like it was a lot of sunshine and butterflies about a less than position. Though perhaps, it isn’t - my daughter is an IB Diploma Candidate so may it is about gals that have already done some heavy lifting and are assumed to need less hand holding and need less credits?

Mystery, but actually a pretty good idea to make use of the dorms when they are empty for study abroad.

Interesting, my D is also an IB Diploma candidate, US citizen but coming back from a 10-year stint overseas. As much as we both love MHC and find everyone to be so friendly, I thinks she’s leaning towards declining the offer. Still a few more weeks to mull over decision, though. Unfortunately, it’s not possible for her to make the trip to visit at this critical point.

Personally, I’m pushing MoHo simply because her other “best favorite option” is insanely expensive. We toured last summer and everyone was sweet and wonderful, it is also her IB Coordinator’s alma mater. There is a post in the waitlisted thread that is a bit of an eye opener, states that WL kids usually get admitted fall semester. There is an opportunity to get on a list to move to fall semester for the spring semester kids.

I think it’s really difficult to sort the intent of all of this.
