Spring 2019 Transfer

Rejected CAS. I’ve been following this thread anxiously since the beginning of November, and I wasn’t too hopeful throughout but ouch! It’s okay. I’ve already committed to another school, so I’m saving money now by not recommitting lol

Congrats to everyone who got in!!
I still didn’t hear anything, so does it mean I have to wait for another week? :frowning:

Has anyone who applied to CALS hear back yet?

@cuckoomf10 let’s create an FB!

I’m still a little undecided on whether to go. Deposit is due this Friday.

@FriedCereal Why would you not go? I honestly can’t believe I only get 10 days to decide. I am going to ask for an extension!!

@HSCTiger2021
-Cost. Cornell’s going to be more expensive than the public university I’m currently at. I’ve been looking into it and the cost of living in Ithaca is on the high side for upstate NY. Cornell’s health insurance is quite expensive ($2800!), off campus housing is pricey, mandatory meal plan if you live on West Campus, and other trivial costs like transportation that add up.
-Workload/Stress. I do expect Cornell to be more difficult than the school I’m currently at. This concerns me since I’m planning on going to grad/prof school where GPA is important. I’ve talked to a few people on this and i think I can handle it but it definitely is still a factor.
-Other factors such as the housing situation (or lack thereof ), Ithaca being a little to rural, having to adjust to a new setting. Not deal breakers but small things that I still consider.

Of course, I see a lot of benefits in going to Cornell: the opportunity to make new friends, being surrounded by motivated peers, job/internship opportunities (lots of employers in nyc love Cornellians), HumanEc’s flexible curriculum, etc…

Unfortunately, the choice go or not isn’t as clear as I had hoped.

@FriedCereal Have you tried negotiating price with them?

Has anyone who applied to CALS heard back yet?

Nope! I applied to CALS and still haven’t heard back. I think we have to wait until next week??

Yeah probably because I applied to CALS too and I haven’t heard back yet either. Has your financial aid status changed for the people who applied to CALS?

No change on financial aid status. Also, is it confirmed they only send out decisions on Tuesday? Or could we get them any day?

Same here. My financial aid still says “initiated”. I can log into the new student portal, but I think everyone has access to it right now… I think the latest we will hear back is the 18th but they do have rolling decisions

How many initiated items do you have for your financial aid? I have like 4 initiated items.

So I got a call from CALS, I didn’t get in but it turns out they aren’t really accepting anyone this round. They are full. The lady that called me let me know that my application was extremely strong, and I literally couldn’t do anything else to make them want me more. Unfortunately they just aren’t accepting basically anyone this year.

So they specifically called you ahead of time to tell you that you were rejected? And also threw in the fact that your application couldn’t have been better? That just seems really weird doesn’t it? If this was truly the case couldn’t they have just custom tailored your decision letter this upcoming Tuesday because I assume you’re still going to see the decision whenever it’s posted. Just seems fishy.

Did anyone else get a phone call. How disappointing for CALS applicants to go through all the work for an application, financial aid, the cost, to say they aren’t accepting anyone? They should’ve been upfront with that.

@maye316 do you know someone in admissions? You seem to have had a lot of input on decisions. Just curious if maybe you knew someone in the department.

@Cornellmom20 I believe that could’ve happened, but it still seems fishy to me. Perhaps I’m just a little skeptical given that I applied to CALS and am hoping what she said isn’t true. But regardless, we shouldn’t just take what someone else said on the internet as gospel.

I agree. If it is, it’s just a shame that people put their heart and soul Into these apps for nothing. Basically then, there was no chance. Interesting they would make a phone call like that too on top of it? I’m just wondering who else received phone calls. It’s extremely disappointing to not get in, but even more so knowing there was never a chance in the first place?
