it’s weird that USC accepts some appeals for fall, when those people didn’t get in in the first place. you’d think they would give the spots to spring admits, and people appealing could only be eligible for spring admission

but I did hear from a USC professor that USC only has spring admission to manipulate their US News rankings… a lot of the spring admittess have lower SAT scores, but since they are starting in spring it doesn’t reflect upon USC. BUT, my friend was given spring admission (she turned it down for Cornell) and she had really high test score, good ecs, good grades… so idk. college admissions are just getting more and more competitive, that is the problem

My D. did the ACT test first, and scored a 32–her counselor said go with it, and she was really happy with her college choices. USC has been her dream school, so she turned down other schools (and scholarships!! ) for USC spring, hoping for a change to fall. Her grades are 3.8 with all honors/math, science & english AP’s, and excellent EC’s (according to her counselor). She’s at a college-prep HS. She was really bummed that some appeals went to fall. Well, we figured we’d hold out hope through this week…

Don’t be too bummed about some appeals being accepted for Fall. Some of the reasons this happens:

There might have been an error that kept the applicants from being fairly evaluated for Fall admission - for instance test scores not being properly matched up or transcripts and recommendations not sent by a counselor. USC tries not to penalize the student and considers their application as though it was regular admissions. I am sure each of you would want the same treatment if something beyond your control kept your application from being fairly considered.

And the most likely reason: The major or program they applied to may still have space for Fall while YOUR major or program does not (this applies even if you applied “undecided,” they only have space for a certain number of “undecided” students in the Fall).

Remember, USC accepted you because they WANT you to attend - good luck!

^ the 2nd reason definitely makes sense now that I think about it. My friend applied political science, which is one of USC’s most popular majors. A lot of foreign students at USC major in poli sci. and USC is well-regarded in that area - they send a lot of grads to Harvard, Yale, and Stanford law. so I think you’re right alamemom

So USC is essentially full? The last two years, they notified students by may 20th. It has been past that date. Doesn’t it mean it’s full?

I just saw a thread somewhere on CC (found it from google, don’t have the link now) that someone from last year, 2009, got the bump to fall on May 26th. However, it is possible that they got bumped by May 20th and didn’t post about till 6 days later. My friend heard you should hear by June 1st.

Will they tell us if we don’t get moved up by June 1st as well?

No.

10char

Just a random question… I have already sent in my enrollment deposit and card saying that I wish to have a spot for spring semester. Was I supposed to receive something in the mail confirming this?

Son was just offered fall spot CLAS-undecided–good luck to all

Congrats. How was he notified?

crunch - is he going to accept the spot???

Son was called by his admission counselor—as far as accepting-- he is a bit confused as he had his fall pretty much planned out! A bumb in the road although a wonderful bumb! More to come!

Thanks for the congrats Alamemom

Many Spring admits bumped to Fall say the same thing - just when they start getting excited about the plans they made for the Fall, they get the call! A great problem to have, though - CONGRATS!!!

I also just got bumped up to Fall 2010, my USC admission counselor that i wrote a letter to was the one that called me. I am super excited!!!

Great news! Congratulations!

aahhhh im a spring admit and am freaking out! i want fall sooo badly but havent heard anything yet do you think there is still a chance of getting bumped up? and congrats on getting moved up for those of you who haved!!!

D received the call this afternoon! She is so excited! She also heard from the admission counselor that she wrote a letter to. She accepted on the spot. Whew!

did they call her house or cell phone?
