Best strategy in general is to read the questions first, then skim the text for the answers.
I recently tried that on a practice exam. It works well if the question asks you to locate specific information. It’s difficut to define the author’s tone or understand the overall theme of the text using that strategy. I’m going to practice using that strategy. It’ll work best for scientific and humanities passages.
I usually just read the passage once, underlining key details. Then I go back and check specific parts when necessary. I personally feel like any strategy with a lot of checking will result in rushing towards the end or simply being unable to finish.
