SSAT - Retake?

I’m applying to a number of the schools in the Eight Schools Association, and although I’m happy with my overall percentile score, I’m concerned about my math score. Given the caliber of schools to which I am applying, is a retest advisable?

Overall SSAT: 95%ile (against females); (94%ile against all 8th graders)
Verbal - 99%ile
Reading - 94%ile
Math - 77%ile (against females), 71%ile (against all 8th graders)

Some other things about me

  • 1/2 underrepresented, 1/2 over-represented minority
  • National level academic EC
  • Assume strong interviews and recommendation

They typically look at the overall percentile. The good news is that your overall percentile score is good (95th). The math score is a bit on the low side, but they can sometimes overlook this.

The URM status will help. Are you full pay? Or will you need financial aid? This is probably a bigger determinant of where you will get in.
