SSAT Scores Not Too Good

Hi, I’m applying to PA Andover and Brooks School and I want to know my chances of getting in with these scores.
Reading-85%
Verbal-68%
Math-51%
The Brooks School interviewer was impressed because of my ability to piano and my grades in school are A’s and 1 B and I am advanced in sports.

These scores are not high enough for Andover, which I suspect you already know

@andover101
Honestly, no one here can give you an accurate chance as none of us are AO’s. We are all mainly 14-17 year olds and do not nearly have the same experience an actual admissions officer will have. Additionally, I highly doubt you would be able to get more feedback than “I think you are a strong applicant” or “I think you have a good chance”, because it is just that–we don’t know if you will be able to be accepted! We could go on and say “you are a shoo-in” yet when admissions decisions roll around in March, you could be rejected. The only purpose of the chances is to give some sort of peace of mind for the applicants (unless that is what you want?) or to give some kind of confirmation that you are a “strong contender”.

Also, I think it would be difficult to give you a good “chance” if all we know is a short summary of your individual SSATs, grades, and the statement that you are “good in sports.”

It’s a little too late now to change anything (enroll in clubs, participate in more extracurriculars, some volunteering), but if both schools allow for you to take the February SSAT as a retake, go for it and improve those scores.

sorry about vagueness, i was in a hurry. I currently play squash and am ranked number 88 in the USA for GU 15 division. I am part of the 8th grade student council/executive board and have taught myself how to lay Fur Elise on the piano with no lessons. Hope this helps
thx

Fur Elise is a rather simple so learning it on your own, although impressive, may not be impressive enough to make you really stand out. However, being ranked 88 in squash in the entire USA might get you somewhere.

Thank you Huggles. In addition, I know the Headmaster of PA and have played squash with his son. Also, my moth teacher’s son goes there and her daughter graduated from there and she has given me a rec. Also, the ex world #1 squash player has given me a rec. as well

Don’t quote me on this but that probably raises your chances even more. In reality though, it really depends on the school. Some schools might need a good squash player which in that case you would probably get accepted. Then again some schools might not need anymore squash players so you may not be as notable.

very true…thanks

btw results are coming Tuesday at around 6pm

@andover101‌

They are actually coming in on Tuesday, March 10, at **5 pm Andover time (Eastern Time Zone - EST) **.

Haha I love the phrase “Andover time.” Andover really does love itself. :wink:

Anybody else finding it ironic that Exeter has its results when most people wake up (5:30 - 6:30 AM) and Andover has their results as one of the latest (5 PM)?

Yes, and Exeter got a head start today it seems! @stereophile373

I’m really nervous… My best friend is also applying and if she doesn’t get in she’s moving

only 44 more minutes!!

And my best friend’s brother is going to graduate from PA this year. He’s in 12th grade

@thelittleswimmer‌ Ok- I meant Tuesday March 10th because I posted this after Tuesday of last week…and I was a little off on the time…oops :blush:

So I got rejected at PA and waitlisted at Brooks. Im probably going to try next year and actually be serious and actually study for SSAT’s.

If you weren’t serious then you shouldn’t have applied in the first place.

@mrnephew‌ - Ouch. Don’t you think that was a bit unnecessary and unkind?. It’s also untrue - if an applicant wants to “wing it”, apply and “see what happens” - that’s their call. You wouldn’t do it that way, which is totally cool. But don’t judge someone else for having standards that are different than yours.
