Ssat.

I'm applying to boarding school this year, so obviously I took the SSAT's. I got my scores about 2 months ago, and...they weren't very good. I studied, but I suppose I just wasn't prepared enough!
Verbal 674 (63%)
Math 659 (46%)
Reading 680 (70%)
Total 2013 (59%)
Wow, that was really embarrassing.
I'm a very good student who has a lot going for me, so do you think that the school will realize that it's a very difficult test and I was nervous?

Where exactly are you applying?

Emma Willard.

the part about the school realizing that; from what i hear, the application doesnt ride on the ssat alone...theres a lot of other things they consider. do you have good recommendations? grades? any hooks?

My experience as a student, who talked my way in a great university MBA program, was that determination, enthusiasm and desire can trump tests and grades to some extent. I would think if your grades are excellent but your SSAT scores are off, you would be ok. If your grades are so-so and your SSAT is what it is, that would be a problem. I still go back to the premise that you are a 'customer' looking for a product(education). If they see the desire to be there, understand your valid reasons for it, and your intent to work hard to do well there and make a contrribution, you will be ok. However, keep in mind that, end the end, space may be limited and they will often take the best qualified as demonstrated by hard numbers(grades, scores) over the rest.

I looked at the stats for Emma Willard on boardingschoolreview. Your SSAT seems to be in the range.

your grades have to back you up!!!!!! :)

hey guys im new here in the forum and i was wondering about my ssat scores...

do u guys think around an 87 will get me into the top boarding schools like exter and stuff
and all my ec's are good and so r my recommendations

and also if i have to re-send one of the recommendation forms to the school will that have an effect on my chances of getting in or not???

thanks

I'm an all "A" student (well one B+ in Algebra but whatever) & I attended camp for two summers at the school. I'm involved in many different clubs & organizations & pointed out in my application what I am interested in doing at the school. I'm from Florida which I think sets me apart because it shows my determination--upstate New York obviously isn't very close to me! I have a lot going for me, so hopefully some stupid test won't ruin my chances of getting into my dream school!

im halfway around the world from new england states like new york and connecticut! i would have been from the mideast in the states but i moved....=[ and ive worked super hard!
i have a lot riding on this decision apart from just the concept of moving..im used to that.

good luck! =) i have a friend whos also applying to emma willard

Yikes, moving is hard.
:(
Thanks & good luck to you too!

P.S. I saw on your profile that you like Juicy. Go Juicy! Hahaha.

Emma's a great school, but it's not as selective as you may think. The deciding factor is how enthusiastic you are in your interviews - you'll do fine.

That's awesome, because I was really enthusiastic in my interview.
:)
