@Stayconnected19 Middle is a boy’s dorm.
I heard that some dorms are carpet free for students who are allergic to dust mites. Do you know how many dorms are carpet free? If a student has a roommate and SPS does not specify study hall time, how would it work considering some student might stay up very late but the roommate might need go to bed with light off?

There are common rooms to study in.
@jminmother I don’t know whether there are dorms that are carpet free but if your child needs a specific type of dorm room, suggest you contact the school right away as they are in the process of assigning rooms now.
Part of the challenge with any roommate situation is learning to work through different living situations. Most students bring desk or floor lamps so it is possible that the lighting can be adjusted to meet both student’s needs. Compromise, flexibility and open communication are key to a successful roommate relationship.

Very constructive advice! I’ll share your words with my kid.
^ Also, in the beginning of the year, dorm heads will ask roommates to agree upon and put in writing some basics, such as lights out time.
contract-like, right? that’s nice. Do kids change dorms after a year or two? Since different formers are mixed, there might be no need.
Some kids stay in the same dorm all 4 years, others change every year. It really depends on the kid, what they are looking for in a dorm and their friend group. Lots of kids make friends outside of their dorm and then try to live together in later years. My kid really likes his dorm so I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays there.

Where could we find the required textbook information for all courses?
I don’t know of anywhere you can get the textbook info for all courses. However, the Humanities Summer Homework page has a listing of the books which were read in each form last year. I don’t know if they are always the same though. https://www.sps.edu/page/academics/departments/humanities/summer-reading-2018
Algebra 2 textbooks are online, not sure about the other math classes.
@jminmother Last year the text for Physics First was “Conceptual Physics” Eleventh edition Pearson ISBN13 978-0-13-137583-3.
It’s best to pre-order textbooks through the SPS Bookstore. Here is the link to the form:
https://sps.myschoolapp.com/ftpimages/36/download/download_1071275.pdf. It needs to be submitted by Aug 20.
The SPS Bookstore checks the student’s schedule and assembles all required books in a bag that you pick up on move-in day. On the form, you can indicate whether you prefer new or used books. Pre-ordered textbooks can be returned or exchanged within the bookstore’s policy.
For other questions regarding textbooks check https://sps.myschoolapp.com/app/parent#resourceboarddetail/14352
Hello. Does anyone know the honors chemistry textbook from last year maybe? Sorry if this question has already been asked before, but is the only way to receive the textbooks for school by pre-ordering? Thanks guys :3
Last year, all materials for Honors Chem were online. The only physical book was the Barron’s Chemistry SAT Subject Test, which was used to prep for the SAT subject test in June.
@OctoBug22, the two links below should answer most of your textbook questions:
Today I heard some kid said that some single rooms do not have a window. Is it possible? I read somewhere saying legally a bedroom should have at least one window.
@jminmother Rather than listening to “some kid,” if you have concerns, its best to email the dorm head or your child’s advisor.
I’ve never heard of an SPS dorm room not having a window.
Are you supposed to receive an email from house head or advisor? We’ve not received anything yet.
