principalviola: I have not seen ColdWind on this thread lately, but I did ask him if he was "in the business". He never answered that question, but clearly he has amassed a mammoth data base, and must have some professional involvement. I do not cite him because the numbers favor SPS (most do), but because he approaches it in a disciplined, totally inclusive and statistically sound manner. (oh and Boston Latin is above SPS, but is not boarding). Some of the stuff posted on CC is simply trash (like the WSJ survey).

I'm not afraid to express my opinion on a SPS thread! (I am a little biased, SPS being the only school I didn't get into)

Don't get me wrong SPS is great, but I got a pretty lousy feel from my tour guide and interviewer. For my tour guide they matched me up with 2 Korean tour guides that had gone to some junior boarding school...

My interviewer gave me such an unwelcoming feeling. He seemed uninterested with what I was saying. At every other school my interviewers seemed genuinely interested.

The facilities were amazing though! Spectacular campus. I'm kind of happy that I didn't get in. It would have complicated things for me.

I don't appreciate it lol. Sorry you didn't get in...not everyone will want you in life. Stop crying like a big baby on this thread and get over it. No one wants to hear you whine over and over again. If SPS is the worst why didn't you get in...Don't blame it on your interviewer...maybe your interview just sucked. If someone seems uninterested...they usually are.

Sorry I have to be so blunt ..but its true. The first few times are cool and funny. But now its just getting redundant, if you hate/hated SPS so much you wouldn't be on this thread repeatedly telling everyone about how you got into all your schools but SPS. I mean with all the people that would give anything to get off any waitlist...no one cares that you didn't get into one school. And you shouldn't care either if you really don't like SPS as much as you say.

mpicz I think you took it in a slightly wrong way...

First off it is in the human DNA (figuratively) to consider one's own choices the best...

Secondly, however rude it was, he did not say it was a bad school. In fact he said it is a great school. Remember, he also did not say (but may have intended to say) that it was due to his interviewers he did not get in...

Post on SPS thread ranking the 4 school he got into ahead of the one he didnt..hmm. That came out of the blue lol. Im all for stating you opinion, but do it to people who care..like your mom..or dad or something. Not on a thread where people are coming for real info on the school.

realize folks, the process is imperfect. So is the occasional tour or interview. But then we are all imperfect too. Some are in, some hope to get in and some are no longer interested. So let's move on.

Any more questions about the school, buildings, classes, grounds, facilities, teachers, fellow students, food, life style, dorms or activities?

principalviola, personally I really like the food, even more than the food I eat at home, mostly because of the variety. There's always so many choices to eat and you can always order out. But I must say in the first week of school no one really eats that much because it's just not "mom's cooking" buy after that week everyone gains weight, lol.

that's my problem... I run close to five miles a day (not much at all) every day... during XC season it is 9mi, swimming 5mi + swim practice and tennis 5mi + tennis + conditioning...

I don't hate SPS. Except for my tour guides and interviewer I did like it. The campus and facilities were gorgeous, and I it had a nice laid back feel to it.

No, my interview was not bad. I got into every other school with paper stats that were less than average and I wasn't hooked or recruited. My SPS interviewer was just very dull. At Groton I talked with my interviewer for 45-60 minutes, and my parents talked with him for 30 minutes. It felt very natural. We just talked about whatever, and after we finished he strongly encouraged my to fill out an application. At SPS my interview lasted ~15 minutes and he talked to my parents for about 10 minutes. Maybe it was just his personality, but he ought to be a bit more outgoing. And about the tour guides, they were great kids don't get me wrong. I just wish that the school selected tour guides that were more like me, so we could relate better.

I am not whining. We were rating schools, and I think that SPS is the 5th best in the nation, based on my visit to the school. Honestly, I think that it's constructive criticism.
