Dear Archetype: I am sure you meant it “Honestly” (comma after this word), but perhaps thou doth protest too much, methinks. I see that you are going be in the “Milton class of '12” (the apostrophe goes before the date) and that you are bringing your gamebox to Groton in the fall. I hope you are not “bitter” (two t’s, please) but perhaps you should critique one of those student papers, afterall we are “so isolated”. Good luck at whichever school you are attending (or is it both?), and watch your spelling and punctuation.

I’m glad sps hosted the Including Samuel event. Mr. Habib came to my school as well and I thought his presentation was very touching and strong.

Nice Winterset!

that was great Winterset!

Archtype has been attacking Hotchkiss as of recent. Methinks he is just bitter. Wherever he does end up I hope he will be happy.

Please, I did not want a pile on. Just pointing out that is sometimes easier to tear down than it is to build. As the editor of my college newspaper, I know how much work it takes to put out a paper in addition to challenging course work, sports and other extracurriculars. All papers have room to improve, but why criticize others hard work? So let’s get this back on track. And I apologize from my own momentary sarcasm. I would rather keep this as a ‘dis’ free zone.

With 53,000+ views and almost 1,200 posts we have far and away the most posts of any boarding school oriented thread on this site. Keep up the great exchanges! GO Big Red!

Milkandcookies: Thanks for the Including Samuel mention. I had to Google it. It was probably in the ‘Morning Reports’ section but I only look at that sporadically.

The Pelican is still pretty bad

So getting back on track…

If anyone is interested in learning more about the Including Samuel movie, here’s a website with a trailer and video clips: [Including Samuel | A documentary by Dan Habib](http://www.includingsamuel.com/)

I was having a meal with a group of SPS students a few days after Dan Habib visited campus and brought up the visit. It was well received by the students and sparked a lot of conversation on campus as well as at the dinner I was at.

On CC, we all are concerned about academics and opportunities for our bright children. This film really made me take a step back and appreciate how good I have it with my children. Parents like the Habibs face day to day struggles that very few of us know.

I think bringing visitors to campus like Dan Habib helps the SPS students to get out of that “bubble” that BS students can fall into. SPS students are also very active in community service, which also helps in this regard.

One more link you might enjoy. The SPS Annual Report includes not just the typical financials but a listing of faculty backgrounds, where students are from, student testimonials, and an assortment of photos and profiles. https://www.sps.edu/ftpimages/36/download/download_group11237_id388850.pdf

Winterset-Thanks once again for providing great information. Just looking at the pictures and reading about the generosity of the alumni, parents and students makes me very happy about my d’s decision to attend St. Paul’s.

As you may know, The Pelican (the student newspaper) comes in both printed and online forms. Since the much longer printed edition does not seem to be available online, I thought I’d print some excerpts from an article in the last copy I received (I am slow to read my mail). There was an interesting article based on interviews of students at other boarding schools. Here are some excerpts:

So for those that are joining…. Welcome to the family.

HAHAHHAHA

I hope exeters on the schedule again as a non league game. It’d be nice to play a school that I applied to…and got wait listed to…

awww thanks winterset!

I remember reading this article in the pelican… i love the idea! other schools should do this! it makes me very curious!

The cross country team really does kick ass! They are amazing!

Yea, the current coach actually coached my interviewer when he was attending SPS. Seems like he’s been there awhile!

My understanding is that the Cross Country coach, Mr. Morgan, has training down to a science. The runners have a very specific regimen they follow, which obviously works.

Boys’ Varisty Record
2008-09 19-0-0, ISL and New England Champions
2007-08 18-0-0, ISL and New England Champions
2006-07 15-2-0, ISL Champs, 2nd New Englands

In the 37-year history of the Independent School League championships, the SPS boys cross country team has won the team title 24 times, including 2006, 2007, 2008 and six times in a row from 1999-2004.

Yes, Morgan was my crew coach almost 40 years ago, and when I got shin splints and had to stop rowing I drove his crew launch (power boat) for all the practices. I remember him as a young guy (!). I also talked him into being our new advisor for the Outing Club and introduced him to rock climbing and winter camping. However, sorry to say, he is retiring at the end of next year.
