St. Paul's School Concord NH

Also, I think there were 134 graduates in 2008. Creative1: Then the schools schools should list several years results side by side. Many schools (not suggesting SPS) intentionally attempt to obfuscate. College placement is one of the dominant reasons many readers on this board select boarding schools. I have already warned against that. But recognizing it is the case-and I believe many boarding schools like to encourage that-then the parents ought to have a right to full and fair disclosure.

If there were 139 graduates in 2008, then the 34% number for Ivy plus MIT and Stanford2008 as cited in Prepreview is wrong. It looks like the correct number is closer to 27%. Am I missing something?

139 is for this current year.

Thanks, Creative1. So, assuming 134 for 2008 graduates and dividing that into the 38 students who matriculated to Ivy+MIT & Stanford, that seems to be 28.3%. Clearly an impressive number, although not 34%. Any thoughts how Prepreview gets a different figure?

A post in another thread. Hope this helps.

From prepreview.com: “Only boarding schools with a minimum of 5-days residential/boarding program with a minimum average graduating class of 50 is included in the ranking. Ranking of top 30 college preparatory boarding schools in the United States is based on the percentage (estimate) of graduating class during the past 5 year period, if unavailable, a time period of 1 to 4 years is used, entering Ivy League Universities + Stanford & MIT.”

I don’t understand what that “estimate” in parenthasis means. They don’t even have the actual matriculation data? It’s hard to tell how reliable it is, because we don’t always have the full 5 year college matriculation data for each of those schools to verify. One thing is for sure though - the numbers do fluctuate. Based on the data published on the school websites, the percentages of students matriculating in Ivies + MIT + Stanford at Andover, Deerfield and Milton for 2008 are:

Andover - 32.31% (prepreview 29%),
Deerfield - 23.86% (prepreview 32%),
Milton - 21.74% (prepreview 32%).

Edit: so to achieve a five year average of 32% or 34%, some years must have numbers much higher than 32%/34%. Is that even realistic?

Sit tight until final numbers are out. Prep Review was for last year. They do not know this years details yet, but Bill Matthews told me that this year is basically the same as last year’s Prep Review numbers. So don’t over analyze the press release. Just be patient. And
don’t get to hung up on the numbers.

re: stories UNH bound hockey player is a very good student. I understand she could have gone to any ivy she wanted given her grades and accomplishments. Committed to UNH early to play hockey now. Plans to attend med school later.

Admissions ‘Yield’ #'s for this year:

Andover 78%
SPS 73%
Deerfield 67%
Exeter 64%
Choate 62%
Lawrenceville 57%
Hill School 56%
Hotchkiss 56%
Taft 50%
Loomis-Chafee 37%

So SPS did well. Not #1, but then “We Try Harder”, and
well
we have no PG’s or day students.

I thought the website said 71% for SPS

These were just emailed to me by Bill Matthews at St. Paul’s. So these are the latest and most accurate.

Is that Andover’s yield rate including day students? Or simply just boarders? I imagine it would make a difference.

Andover’s numbers appear to be based on total admissions, so it clearly seems to include day students. This is substaintiated by their own press release which cites the same percent and notes that it is up from 74% the prior year

what is the best dorm to live in people wise? (what are the sterotypes for each dorm for boys/girls)

i heard kehaya is really nice as the building it self–is this true?

and also do the people in dorms change from year to year? (do people usually choose to live in the same dorm?)

maaa, a couple of pages ago i asked a similar question, and a complete list of girls/ guys dorms were posted if that helps. Kehaya is very nice (ive been in it) but all the dorms have their good and bad points.

I would also like to know if returning students can request to keep their dorm/ room,

I haven’t heard of stereotypes about any SPS dorms really
actually I’ve heard a few. I put a note on my dorm thingy that I would prefer to be in Warren or Manville though. I based that simply off the fact that they’re near the gym and soccer fields.

I don’t know which dorm i would like to be in
i suppose somewhere central, but I would be fine with anything. I guess Kehaya because I know people already in there

I asked this question on another thread, but who is bringing furniture (like a comfy chair) to sps? I want to know if it is worth it

Almost everybody has some sort of couch in their room, however I wouldn’t suggest buying one until you arrive at school and you see your room. They have some very affordable and nice counches at Chuck’s Used Furniture. It is sort of the SPS hotspot for buying couches and chairs.

Lol that just sounds like a sketchy ass place

mpicz- what were the sterotypes you heard?

Just some guys dorms to try and avoid
nothing on girls stuff.
