i dont really care about which gender haha.

why should those specific dorms be avoided?

All I heard is either Kitt 1 or 2 is really small and should be avoided. I asked which dorms I should avoid if I wanted to be near the gym and with people who are into stuff like me (sports, music, etc.) and the answer was Foster and Armour or something like that.

Im pretty sure it was those 2âŠbut I mean I donât really know. All I care about is being near the gymâŠon a 2,000 acre campus Iâll probably get lost trying to get there if Iâm not pretty close.

Being close to the gym seems like a really big deal freshmen year, but youâll learn it really doensât matter. The campus isnât THAT big.

Im no math whiz but 2,000 acres seems big to me. And in the winter I wake up pretty early to take shots in the gym and work out a little. I just would rather not walk in the cold for a long time to get there. I donât want to be close just for the hell of it

BTW when does the gym open every morning?

Keep in mind that the first year you do not pick your dorm. The housing system is a bit complicated. You can certainly express some preferences⊠but beyond asking about type of roommate, I donât think they ask new students to express a dorm preference (can anyone correct me on this?). Anyway⊠go to the map: https://www.sps.edu/interactive/campus_map.html And Mpicz , you had it right, Warren and Manville are the closest to the gym.

And donât worry about the 2,000 acres, you will never see most of it unless you run or ski X-country or row. I was up there for crew races and a dinner in town yesterday.

Bike Share Program Initiated
5/18/2009

On May 12, the student-run Eco Action club announced the Schoolâs new Bike Share Program, which provides students with a new option for traveling to and from Downtown Concord.

Bikes are available to all students â with informed consent from themselves and their parents â on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for off-campus excursions. When signing out bicycles, students are also provided with a helmet â a requirement for all bike, scooter, and skateboard activity on the grounds.

Maura Adams, manager of environmental stewardship at St. Paulâs, acquired four bikes â including two from a local police auction â to get the program off the ground, and hopes to increase the two-wheeled fleet to about 10 in the next several months. The first four bikes received tune-ups at a local shop and were equipped with front and back lights before they were made available to students.

âThe Bike Share Program gives students a cost-free, carbon-free option for getting around town. Now they can try biking to Main Street instead of relying on taxis,â said Adams. âThe program also demonstrates the Schoolâs interest in environmental responsibility and connects us to greater Concord.â

The Big Share Program is supported by the Central New Hampshire Regional Planning Commission and the Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire. St. Paulâs is one of two pilot locations for a program organizers hope will expand to schools, churches, and other institutions in the area.

Student Admissions officers were announced today. Fourteen, evenly split between boys and girls. Nice system, gives the students a vote in the process. A lot of work for those kids, but a great honor too.

A few scores from the past week:
Varsity Baseball Boys: Won 15-6 vs Lawrence
Varsity Lacrosse Boys: Won 14-6 vs Lawrence
Varsity Tennis Boys : Won 11-4 St. Georgeâs
Varsity Tennis Girls: lost 3-12 St. Georgeâs
Varsity Lacrosse Boys: Won 13-10 St. Georgeâs

are the student officers posted on the website?

Varsity Lax finished out the season in style today with a 7-6 overtime win at home against St. Marks

Go Big Red.

iâm definitely applying to SPS next year⊠: D
haha, itâs funny how much opinions on certain schools change. hmm.

what was the acceptance rate this year ?
& does SPS have a pool? i think they do, but they donât have swimming/diving, right? (so many questions, i know! sorry!)

SPS does have a pool, and it is open during the afternoons for kids to swim inâŠNo competitive swimming, although winter term you have the option to do club swimming where you go swim laps 3-4 times a week.
There are third formers who used to be competitive divers, but stopped once they came to SPSâŠ

Er, whatâs 3rd former in terms of grade? D:

ninth grade

catg: No they are not posted. Probably better if their names do not circulate. I just know a few of them.

Be staying at SPS Friday night and then off early to the New England Crew Championships in Worcester (NEIRAs). The kids have a team breakfast and depart at 5:45 AM!!! Looks like Andover will be tough this year, but their boys 1st crew is all graduating! Our boys 1st beat Exeterâs last Saturday, but they beat oll our other boats (my Sonâs by a few feet!). But at least I did not have to cheer for Concord High School, they had a REALLY dismal showing.

chea sps crew!
I was going to go to the reunion, but now im not. if anyoneâs going tell me how it is! :)

u only really find out who they are for sure when u are accepted. i didnt even know that there were student admission officers before it said on my acceptance page that i could email them & it gave photos of them.

Im pretty sure they had the sheldon society on the site before acceptance. They just put a link online for all accepted students to know where to go.

Student Admissions Officers from last yearâs application season are listed on the school website under admissions. See Sheldon Society. I would assume over the coming months the latest crop of SAOs will be listed there as well.

[St. Paulâs School ~ The Sheldon Society](http://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=109998)

but does the sheldon society on the site list the officers w/ photos and their bio? i guess i missed that⊠checkingâŠ
oh hey! it does have everything! totally missed that one haha!

a case of swine flu has been confirmed at SPS!

(just keeping everyone updated)

Dear SPS Parents,

I have learned that a test for a St. Paulâs School student has confirmed the H1N1 (swine flu) virus. When the student visited the Clark House Health Center a few days ago with flu-like symptoms, he was immediately isolated and promptly started on Tamiflu. His parents took him home, and he is recovering from his illness.

At this time, no other students have come to Clark House with similar symptoms.

As I have written in previous messages, nothing is more important here than the health and safety of our students. We continue to urge all community members to wash their hands frequently and to observe other basic hygienic precautions. While we are concerned about this illness and grateful for the studentâs rapid recovery, the work of this academic community goes on with great energy as the end of the school year so quickly approaches.

I will of course inform you if other developments occur regarding H1N1 on our grounds during these next weeks.

Sincerely,

Bill Matthews â61
Rector

Yes there are 14 SAOs. I think the admissions people sort of semi-protect their identities so they do not get inundated or lobbied. As you see, they provide first names (not last) and even their email addresses are not their normal SPS addresses. So if you happen to know the full names, I believe you should not post them. okay?

Separately, 5 of the 6 SPS boats at the NE Crew championships made it to the finals today. The SPS 1st boys boat won the bronze. My sonâs boat was the only one that did not make it and their cox was the only student to so far contract the H1N1 virus. He is at home, doing well and actually wanted to come to the race with a mask! Two schools could not attend the championships because of the virus (Winsor and Boston Latin).

Just posted the above from the Rector, but edited it out when I saw sailor_chica posted it simultaneously! Thanks! The school will monitor it, but is not currently planning to close. With graduation in one week it would be tragic if that happens. I am certain they will continue to carefully watch for any additional cases. Keep your fingers crossed!

Milk and Cookies: I will be at anniversary. Actually I was there yesterday, last night, and for every crew regatta the past 3 weeks! Sorry we canât post photos here. The horse-drawn wagons, crew blazers are all quite cool. But I will post comments if you want me to.
