Why is the spanish placement test so long! I don’t feel like doing all of this…

mpicz- yeah i remember taking that and it being annoyingly long. they have to test for a wide range of levels though so they ask questions that are at the level of spanish 2 or 3 as well those that are more basic. if i didn’t know how to do something i just skipped it and i was placed at a good level.

hockeykid- i know, it’s too bad because the pelican could really be good if it wasn’t so boring. as it is now it’s like reading a country club newsletter

I can answer everything…it’s just so long. It reminds me of spanish class, and I hate spanish class. I’m not answering the last page though…requires to much thinking for summer.

wasnt the spanish test due like, a while ago?

What is the inside SPS weekend? Is it similar to the fall parent’s weekend?

Well I never got it, so I e-mailed someone and they told me to do it and send it in ASAP.

There are basically three possible weekends:

Leadership Weekend: Parents, Alums & the Board that work on fundraising or admissions. But anyone willing to make some calls can join the Parents Committee and then be invited. Includes Training. 10/2-10/3.

Family Weekend: The traditional parents weekend. With abbreviated classes and a chance to meet the faculty. It is a 3 day weekend, so a lot of kids go home or Boston or wherever from Saturday afternoon until Monday evening. 10/23-10/24.

Inside SPS: This winter weekend used to be called Pelican weekend and was for larger donors. They changed it to be open to everyone. It has become like parents weekend (+alums) but there are no classes. 2/19-2/21.

You should be invited to the second two and can get invited to the first one if you are willing to work. At each you learn a lot about SPS from classes, to financials, to college admissions, to longer range plans. All of them have an assortment of Friday night entertainment.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN MUSIC AT SPS, You should look here: http://music.sps.edu/news.html You will see a series of video clips from the Inside SPS weekend plus a lot more from this past year.

Whens the first break when yo go back home? Is it thanksgiving?

Some people go home on parent’s weekend if they live nearby, but for most it’s thanksgiving.

How long is the thanksgiving break for?

Thanksgiving vacation is 1 week.

Here’s a link to a Calendar which shows start and finish dates as well as breaks for the 2009-10 academic year.

How is Math taught at SPS? Are there textbooks?

Ok thanks, I was hoping for like 2 weeks, but I guess I’ll take what I can get. Atleast you get like all of March off.

A few pages back, there were questions regarding summer reading assignments. They are now posted on the SPS website:

Thanks C1 !!

Thanks for posting the links.

How do people generally write their responses? (For 3rd Form) Do they just answer the prompts, or just say, “This is how I felt about -soandso- and -soandso- acted stupid because…”

Question posed by emdee’s d

emdee - it really depends, there is no right or wrong way because the way most people answer it has to do with the way that they were taught to do things in middle school

Wait… I thoguht “A Thousand Splendid Suns” was the required book this summer.

There are two kinds of summer reading:
