Hello,
I am trying to help a family friend with his FAFSA and in general his college financing. He attends a small private tech school that it appears from the papers he brought for me will finance the tuition amount at a very attractive rate from their own funds, but *not*any of the living or misc. expenses.

This past year They applied his Stafford amount first to tuition and then financed the remainder through the school. He did not know or think about asking if there was a way to get the Stafford funds to help with all of the non-tuition expenses.

Is there a general 'protocol' or 'procedure' as to how the Stafford are disbursed? Does he have the 'option' or 'right' to ask that those funds go first to living expenses and food, before being used for tuition?

And, if it makes any difference, the school does NOT use the CSS - just the FAFSA, he lives in off campus housing (the school has no dorms), and he qualifies for the larger Stafford Loan as his parent were turned down for the Parent Plus Loan.

Thanks for any help available,
