Stain removal on silk

Looking for any first hand advice. I was given a bolt of silk. Yay! Unrolled it after 18 months and saw why it was given away. A stain, origin unknown but I don’t think it’s urine, as there is no odor, went through layers of the fabric. Boo! Now I know why someone gave it away.

I’m having a seamstress make a bedspread out of it. She’s cut the pieces and I will wash and iron and return to her, assuming I can get the stain out.

The material is color fast as far as I can tell, I tested a small spot already with a very small amount of Woolite and cool water. I didn’t want to scrub and I only tried it for a very short time, no soaking or anything.

My first idea is to soak in cool water, and beyond that, not sure what to do. More Woolite and gentle agitation, or something else? I hate to throw it out, as it’s very beautiful.

Did you try a Tide pen? I find that gets out everything! No agitation… just gentle blotting?

Do you have a local oriental rug cleaner? They tend to be very knowledgeable about getting stains out of many materials…wool, silk, etc.

I wouldn’t use anything oil based. Soaking in diluted hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, and/or lemon juice all might work, but all the beautiful colors on that silk would lead me to send that out to a professional.

Looks like a water leak… from a rusted pipe or spilled tea.

I second asking a professional rug cleaner. Please try anything you consider on a small piece; peroxide based cleaners should be OK, but nothing with bleach.
