Stanford - 2007 Transfer Thread

oh and by the way I also couldnt get a sunet ID thing-so I suppose that thing was a good indicator..?

lol, i'm probably not going to go...looks good for you. i didn't even expect them to w/l transfers.

lol125, did you have any legacy at Stanford?
I know sometimes, and in my experience applying to school as a freshman, at places where I had heavy legacy I was placed on the waitlist. Not saying you don't deserve it, just wouldn't have guessed that they would have a waitlist due to the 2011 overenrollment.

How many people got waitlisted? I tried to ask the office of UA but they said the figures would be included in the official letter (hard copy).

Does the legacy-waitlist phenomenon hold validity? What are the chances of getting on off waitlist (any stories?)

Rejected. Though, in the email they sent me in April that everyone was getting the ID from, mine was blank. It just said ID: and then nothing. Any idea what that meant?

Waitlisted

Curious about how many kids are on the waitlist, if they only accepted 20 out of 1,400 apps. Couldn't be more than 20 or 30, right?? I wonder if we are ranked...

A word to the wise, for anyone who is in my company: don't get your hopes up. I'm def not.

If anyone is curious about the 'waitlisted' letter, I'll throw mine up.

Dear Ryan,
We have just completed our review of this year's applications for transfer admission to Stanford, and I write to offer you a place on our waiting list. Although we cannot offer you admission at this time, I want to assure you that any student we place on our waiting list is someone who has shown great promise, whom we would like to be able to admit if space becomes available.

We received over 1,400 transfer applications and offered admission to just 20 candidates. In case additional space becomes available, we have established a short waiting list from which to make further selections. Should you choose to accept a place on our waiting list—and I encourage you to do so if Stanford is where you would like to be in the fall—we would notify you of your status by late June. We realize that you must respond to offers of admission at other colleges in early June, and we advise you to secure a place at another college by that deadline. The college to which you commit at this time will understand if you are later offered admission from the waiting list to Stanford.

Please let us know whether or not you wish to be included on this list by returning the card enclosed with your official letter by June 15. If you do decide to remain on the waiting list, we ask that you arrange to have your final spring grades sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience with this process and your willingness to be flexible. I hope you understand how impressed we were with your application and how much we value your interest in Stanford.

With best wishes,

Richard H. Shaw
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

REJECT'D

This is weird. I've been accepted/waitlisted at every Ivy I've applied to so far and rejected from all other schools. Perhaps this is God's way of telling me that I'm elitist. o_O

hey-no i had no legacy at stanford..im also an international student

hey guys,

as crushing as the moment is, i just wanted you all to know that this year was obscenely difficult by any standard. you know that, but it never hurts to reiterate the point.

i wish you the best of luck with transferring to your new schools. i know transferring was the right move for me.

^^ well said.

What's the big deal anyway? It's just a "junior university," right? Like a junior college?

What?

oh

:P

Yeah +1 ^

20/1400+ = < 1.43% accepted.

Huge blower.

("If they accepted the 'normal' 60 applicants, I wouldn't be waitlisted- I would be in! Damn." Anyone else share my train of thought?)

yeah, I'm still disappointed, I knew I had a good shot when the admit rate was 6%, having legacy, good recs, and good scores. But I obviously didn't have a chance in the extreme competition.

I promised to post my stats after the official decision, but I'm still wrapping up mega homework. I"ll post them in a couple days for next year's transfer hopefuls.

bait and switch... i feel EXACTLY the same way. Why does the admit weekend have to be so successful? (Ironically, its probably due to the same reason we want to go to the farm anyways...)

Anyone know how many kids are on this 'waitlist'????

It'll probably be revealed on the FAQ. Understand, they already are over-enrolled. It is highly unlikely they will visit the waitlist. Freshmen waitlist has already been closed without a single admit.

That said, I'm probably going to keep my $100k, graduate early from Cal, and finish a masters in the same time I would finish undergrad at Stanford. So there maybe an opening or two from the 20.

Do you think they'll let you transfer your admit over to me?!? ;-) I could give you a COOKIE!?!

Did anyone get their letter today? I was expecting mine to come, but it didn't arrive with the mail.
