Hey I am sophomore in high school. I have a 3.0 GPA as of now. I can probably pull a 4.0 at the end of this semester. I messed up really bad freshman year because I was so unfocused. I regret it so much but now I realize what I want to do with my life. I am going to take 5 APs next year that will hopefully raise my GPA. Throughout my high school career my GPA has been going up. I am part of the speech and debate club, Red Cross club, and soccer team. I volunteer at the hospital and have played the piano for 2 years. I live 45 minutes away from Stanford. I think I can show them that I have been improving though out the years. SO you think I have any chance at all or any suggestions?

Stanford claims not to look at freshman grades. Is your 3.0 GPA culmulative, or just for 1st semester 10th grade?

i reckon you have a fair shot like everyone else. write good essays and get good teacher references and then wait for the crapshoot to do its work!

Ya, dreamer9 is right. Its almost impossible to predict so who knows. Still, I would think that the average admit has stronger high school grades than those that you mentioned, but don't let that deter you.

My cululative GPA as of second semester is 3.0. I will try to get into summer programs at stanford and see what happens. I can get good recs from almost all of my teachers i am on good terms with all of them and they would probally give me excellent rec. I am also doing a reserach project at a local state university. I sthere anything that might give me an edge? because i knoe with my stats right now i am a far reach.

MAKE SURE you convey truckloads of passion for stanford/your academic subjects/your activities in your essays. your essays have to be gold. and send in a resume for kicks. i did. but don't drown them with additional stuff, otherwise they'll just get peeved off.

and if you want to clarify ANYTHING, call their office. i spoke with the director for international admissions a couple of times. who knows? maybe they'll remember you and think that your phone-calls convey your eagerness to attend stanford. after all, they want to admit students who WILL attend. so yeah, you have a shot! make the most of it and good luck!!!
