If my grades are pretty strong (~94-95 GPA weighted, 2070 SAT superscore, 760 and 770 on History subject tests, and 30 ACT), my application is pretty good (very strong essay, decent ECs but no Nobel Peace Prizes or crazy awards or anything like the rest of the CC crowd have), and my uncle is the president of Stanford (would that count in "affiliations" even though he doesn't have a degree from there?), would I have a decent chance of getting in? Otherwise I'm almost totally sure I couldn't get in, so I'm wondering if that would make it possible.

Even then, I don't know how I would feel about how I got in and I'm not really sure if I want to go or not (California is sort of far for an East Coast person) but I think it might be worth a shot applying. What do you think?

Thanks!

(And no, I'm not a troll)

And I’m taking 6 AP classes senior year.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

you’re in?

my uncle is the president of Stanford

What in the literal . . .

Damn. I was hoping it would be a little bit less certain than that. Now I’m gonna have an inferiority complex for the whole time I’m there =(

I want to get in on my own merit at least a little bit.

Why don’t you just ask your uncle?

I remember when I complained about having an automatic acceptance to Stanford…damn that must suck.

Lol this must be ■■■■■? Uncle is president of Stanford?

Man if that’s true even with a low score like 2070 you’re in.

2070 isn’t that low. It’s in the mid 50% range for Stanford.

But anyway, do you guys think I should go for it? I’m fine if the “affiliation” thing just puts me over the top a little bit, but if my application would otherwise go in the discard pile right away I wouldn’t want to apply.

As Collegiatedreams said, why don’t you just ask your uncle? No one here really knows the extent to which that connection will boost your admission chances, and no one knows whether your uncle can or will get you in to the school if you would otherwise be rejected. If you’re asking whether you should apply knowing that, IF you get in, it COULD be because of your familial relationship, what’s the downside to applying? You certainly won’t get in if you don’t apply, and you might not get in if you do. If you do get in, you’re not bound to go; you can decide at that point.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I’m just going to apply without mentioning the relation and hope that they love my essays so much that they can overlook my other relative weaknesses. Ya never know.

Thanks!
