Hi! So I am planning on creating a music portfolio for Stanford, and I need a teacher recommendation on SlideRoom with my portfolio. The trouble is that I already had my music teacher write a letter as my supplement. Can she submit the same letter?
Thanks so much
Also what does repertoire mean? Is that all the pieces I’ve played, or the ones that are performance-ready now? I’m NOT planning to be a music major, does this affect anything?
Edit: my portfolio is actually a little over 10 minutes. Should I only submit one piece, or should I just go full throttle and submit both pieces in a “screw the h8ers” sort of way? Can I only submit one? It says “up to 2 contrasting pieces,” are you even allowed to submit just one? TYSM
Your best bet is to contact the music department/admissions officers with your questions as they’re in the best position to provide accurate answers.
If things haven’t changed since I applied, you can submit just one piece. I submitted one that was a bit too long so I made a few cuts to the piece. The alternative is submitting a piece that’s too long without cuts and risking them cutting off the recording before the most impressive parts. Quality over quantity with the music.
Do you have a private instructor for your instrument? They would be a great person to write a LOR for you.
Very few people at Stanford major in music, so it shouldn’t affect anything you do on the app itself whether or not you intend to major in music. It’s not a conservatory and you don’t need to audition for the major.
Super helpful!! Thank you so much!
