Stanford Arts Supplement

Hey,

I signed up to have a live regional audition for Stanford this month. I am a soprano who sings mainly musical theater. I have been taking voice lessons for six years. I love musical theater and singing is a great passion of mine. I'm hoping that a live audition will highlight the fact that I'm a student with outside of school talents and interests.

However, on the Stanford site, they specify that "applicants with extraordinary talent in the fine or performing arts may submit supplementary materials for review. Extraordinary talent can generally be defined by significant recognition, usually at the state, national or international level."

I believe that I am talented, but I'm not sure I have received the extraordinary recognition Stanford says they are looking for. Can anyone help me out by telling me if the music department would prefer that I not audition since I don't have state, national or international recognition. I've been in musicals at school and in the community, but I haven't ever auditioned for a professional role because my parents always insisted that my main focus should be school.

Thanks so much for your help

I don’t think they will allow a live audition. It says people may submit supplementary materials.

That being said, I wouldn’t be discouraged by the level of recognition they say they expect, different people do different things with music. Do the supplement.

Thanks!
They already assigned me a live audition. Stanford will be in my area for one day. They told me though that they wouldn’t be able to provide accompaniment as they won’t be traveling with a pianist. It’s pretty unfortunate. Has anyone else done a voice audition with Stanford and had this happen?
