Only in brainstorming, hoping to spend a lot of time the next few weeks…my entire app is due by Dec 1 because I’m submitting an Art Supp!

Hmm, my school’s Naviance lists a kid with a 1700 SAT and a 3.5 GPA that got in.

AMAZING.

Gotta be a hook there…or some amazing feat attached!
Definitely an awesome instance to cite, though, gives me hope !!
Thanks, adchang!

I think I should add myself to this thread. Even though I’m a REA’er, I certainly do NOT have the “beastly stats” which you claim that all REA’ers have. I don’t have a 4.0 nor a 2400, and imo my EC’s aren’t terribly unique either.

yup! i’m submitting an art supplement too(photography). Our entire application must be in Stanford’s hands by December 1st- rec letters and all. good luck :D

I should have submitted my photography… I have an awesome portfolio, idk why i didn’t

I was originally going to submit a piano recording, but it turned out that I wouldn’t have enough time to put one together in time for the REA deadline (which was October 15th for people submitting art supplements). I’ll probably be sending a recording of my work to the other top schools I’m applying to though :)

Wait…wait…isn’t the common app/supplement via online and Arts Supplement sent in via mail due by Dec 1 and Teacher’s Recs and Counseling Reports by Jan 1st?
Unless you mean the Art Teacher recommendation?

Yay for photographers! What type of photos do you both take?
I sort of have a Fashion edge to mine and I’m not sure if they’ll be conceptual enough…they’re naturally lit, whimsical sort of photos with a bit of emotion…

Lol this thread is meant for me.

i already applied last month, RD.

ended up applying to just 4 schools b/c my parents refused to pay any of my app fees.
needless to say, i love Stanford too much to take it out of the list. dad was a research professor there for 3 years.

i have a good SAT score but my GPA is pretty average b/c i didn’t keep up my grades in honors math courses. i’m Asian, which might make things worse. but i consider myself atypical since i love English and humanities–plan to go into linguistics.

sent in arts supplements for piano and cello which i really hope will help.
that, my leadership positions, and passion for languages, 4 of which i taught myself.

best wishes to all of us! :D

I’m still debating whether to apply to Stanford or not =/

Since I’m extremely (x1000000) unlikely to get in :(

But, just wondering…
For Arts Teacher rec, can I get it from an arts teacher not related to what I’m sending? Like if I’m sending a Painting portfolio, can I ask my music teacher or web design teacher to write me one?

i don’t think so.
they probably wouldn’t ask you to send in a recommendation letter if it didn’t give them further info on that type of artwork, besides the supplement itself and the resume

and yeah, i debated with myself for a while about applying.
but the $95 fee seemed worth the smidgen of a chance that i’ll make it in.
one of my friends knew someone in the admissions office, and was told that besides just GPA and test scores, they’re looking for people who, in their applications, show they are “different” and “passionate” about what they do-- enough that they can make a difference somehow in the world.

I see
I want to send them my art supplement but I don’t even know if I can finish the essays on time… I just found out about the December 1 deadline yesterday so I don’t even have a teacher I can ask yet…! yikes!
If I don’t send, can I list my DeviantArt/Flickr sites on my activities list and expect them to take a look?

I actually think you might get in especially the fact that your dad was a researcher there! (And you play piano & cello & the language thing) >_< So I wouldn’t label you as ‘Extremely Unlikely’…

relax. don’t be so hard on yourself!
i think they look at artwork by more individualized standards than they do for instrumental performance, so there might be a better chance your supplement stuff enhances your application than mine will.

the supplement essays honestly took me an hour tops, and i thought i would take much longer.
you should email the coordinator person to check about having them look at your photo sites, just to make sure you can. but i think they’ll likely agree to that.
or just list them on your “further information” space on the common app.

i remember viewing some decision pages on CC for Amherst and other competitive schools, and there were occasionally people who sent in artwork/music that was online, and it made a huge difference in their admittance.

A bit scared. After spending a weekend at Stanford, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else for college. This visit really pulled my hopes up, sigh. Has anyone visited campus before? When I was younger I never really understood the beauty behind the Spanish architecture, but now I’m enamored by it.

I don’t know what they will do about self-directed artwork, I was in the same boat sort of since I’ve never taken classes at my school. But, I took some classes last Spring at a college nearby so I asked my teacher there. Maybe see if you could talk to an art teacher at your school and ask for their advice on what to do? Maybe they can take a look at your artwork and get to know it within the next few weeks or so?

Also, I hope websites make a difference! I have a personal website, but it mostly is just a landing spot with a few links with scrolly bars of photos.

I’m having SUCH trouble writing my essays, the pressure is on since my two UC essays are due and same with Stanford common app & supplement, I keep writing things and discarding them because I feel all this pressure to be memorable :/

Topramenbaklava: Ah I was seriously going to visit this Saturday but I was already scheduled to work at a Special Olympics event! I could’ve accidentally run into you! SAME, I never understood Spanish architecture back then but now I’m enamored, too! My other top choice school happens to have Spanish Architecture, too!

Since Stanford is allowing Score Choice when it comes to SAT II’s (thank goodness), should I send in my Spanish Subject Test score of 670? I have 3 other SAT II’s (Biology E, US History, Lit) that I got 750 or higher on, so those would definitely be more impressive than a 670, but I’m not sure…opinions? Please be honest!

You don’t have to send in your Spanish SAT II if you don’t want to (unless you’re a prospective foreign language major).

No need to send in the 670. You already have more SATIIs than they require.
