Stanford Gene Camp 2017

You are right - luck definitely is a factor sometimes…Well, anyway thanks for ur replies to my questions haha…it would have been nice to get in but u kno what it’s ok…congrats to ur son!

Thanks. Hope you and others get into or got into one of the summer programs (COSMOS, SIP or other good programs). My son could not get into SIP (for the second year in a row). He was dejected when he got rejected this year too.

My son was accepted, but probably he won’t go, so who is on the waitlist will have a chance. He is a junior this year, and he didn’t get it last year.

So, what r they gonna tell by the 24th?? Is that if we already got an email?

They don’t even notify the people that are rejected… @Izallgood5610

Ya so is the 24th the day waitlist people find out? Did they even send out waitlisted people emails yet? Like I am 99% sure I didn’t get in but what’s the point in being pessimistic all the time…@MatthewW12

Congrats to your son! However, I do wonder why he is rejecting the offer?

@Izallgood5610 yea there is some chance that maybe some of us would get a waitlist email, but I don’t think it’s likely. However, fair point, there’s no point of giving up now.

@mvhsdude Thank you. He is rejecting because he got in in another program JAX (Jackson Laboratory), and he decided for that program. It was his decision, and hopefully the best one

@nuvemseis @Saphomoreguy sorry to reopen this post, but did either of your children attend any other camps in years prior, COMOS, SIP, etc. I’m asking because I still need to figure what I’m doing this summer and am looking to get into GeneCamp next year.

@mvhsdude My son went to CSSSA when he was a freshman, but I don’t think that counts because it’s an art program. Last year he tried for Gene Camp but wasn’t accepted, and he told me this year he used basically the same application. But he spent a lot of time last summer studying bioinformatics topics and learned some programming languages like Python and tried to solve some of the problems from Rosalind - http://rosalind.info/problems/locations/
