Unfortunately I have not received anything. On the program website it says that ppl will be notified BY April 15, but I have been told nothing.
@theancientmemur Yeah, I’m 99.999% sure that we are rejected. I didn’t really expect this to be so competitive. I though that it was a program that not a lot of people knew about. I was wrong. On the website it says that 350 people applied in the past 2 years and only 10 were selected.
Anyone hear anything?
@MatthewW12 Where on the website does it say that?
Nevermind, I found it. Yeah, I’m pretty sure we’ve been rejected. Although, unlike past years, I believe that they’re reaching out directly to teachers. I wish I had asked my teacher if he been asked for a recommendation before the break. Well, now I just need to wait.
Good luck man, I hope you get it. You go to Monte Vista?
No, I go to Monta Vista HS. People confuse it all the time.
Oh, in cupertino? Sorry I’m from the far east bay so thats the one I assume lol
Well guys, today is the day. Although for some reason the GeneCamp website says this: “Selected and stand-by candidates will be notified by April 15, 2017. If you have not heard from us by April 24th, it is because we were unable to include you in the program this year.” So I don’t know if not being told today is a definite rejection.
I think not being told anything today is a definite rejection - the 24th is when the standby people will be notified and if they don’t receive anything they can assume that they were rejected…but I am not sure…
Anyway, GOOD LUCK!
Lol has anyone gotten an email yet?
My son got an e-mail around 10:35pm on April 13 that he got into Gene Camp. He was given time until April 18th to accept. Hope all of you get in. All the best!
I’m sorry…if u don’t mind could u share ur son’s general stats?
Same question here @Saphomoreguy . Also any sort of prior experience or achievements in the field?
Wait why is this chain marked with a check mark - did the person who started it get in? Congrats if they did…man I thought this wouldn’t be sad but it always is
My son has a 4.0 GPA. But the main thing is that he did some STEM research work last year and participated in Synopsys Science Fair. Maybe, this tilted in his favor.
Sorry, I keep on bothering u @Saphomoreguy but what classes is he taking this year?..cuz I hav the STEM research too (with tons of lab and instrument usage experience)…just trying to understand what may have been wrong with my app
.
He is taking Chemistry Hon., Pre-Calculus, AP Computer Science as the main science and Math courses. One thing I forgot to mention is that he focused on Computer programming and Data Analysis for his research work (rather than the actual lab work). This could be another reason for getting in. Another aspect we all should consider is that there is limited space which means only few students can get in. It is a matter of luck.
