Stanford in Berlin Program

Hi!
My son, a sophomore, just told me that he is accepted to Stanford in Berlin Program next Spring.
I need some inputs from parents/students regarding some issues:

  1. Healthcare insurance
I checked out Aetna and Allianz. Aetna’s quote includes benefits that my son won’t need, such as preventive, vaccination, etc. Consequently, the premium is higher and not include “repatriation of remains”. Allianz is kind of the one my son needs, but can’t find any reviews in the net.
He is in our health plan since we live only 25 miles away from campus. So, no Cardinal Care coverage.
  2. He is allergic to certain chemical in detergent, thus always uses certain brand, any advice on how to solve this problem?
  3. Housing/living/ meals arrangements. Can someone tell me his/her experiences?

Anything else I need to know?
Thank you.

Not sure exactly what you are asking on health insurance. Are you looking just for the repatriation of remains (such a pleasant topic for a parent to think about  )? Scroll down in this link and see if the International Student Identity Card will meet your needs.

My goodness, that “repatriation of remains” spooked me too.
I’m looking for an international health insurance plan, such as this one:

I tried the quote inquiry for December 2016. and got much cheaper price than Stanford’s Cardinal Care ($1650/quarter).

Our health insurance plan only covers domestic. ISIC is a travel insurance, not a health insurance.

Aetna is more expensive but it’s more well-known health insurance company. Should I choose Aetna, I will also buy ISIC for repatriation of remains & other benefits.

Talked to Aetna Rep. , the policy quoted is for 12 months, they don’t offer short term.
