She's crazy. Well, more of an idiot than crazy, but you have to be a little crazy to do something as ridiculous as this.

I think this is a defining story for college admissions right now. I hope it also opens up Asian culture discussions, not that Asians are alone. The process is making kids sick. For some it begins years before college with getting into the best HS. What will change this?

Uh I think she's an exception, especially since this is the first time I've ever heard anything like it. Seriously, think a/b the reality of this. A girl was rejected by Stanford and then decided, quite brilliantly, that she would falsely display herself as a student, even living in a dorm with another real student. She never took classes, just sat around. What was she doing all of this time? Soaking in the atmosphere? There's seriously something wrong with this girl and I don't think most HS kids are like her.

she should be allowed to stay. i have to say i did have a dream about me doing this at Penn because im another dream school reject.

On Thursday, May 17, 2007, she posted this on her website, http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:MOztVvakWUgJ:www.xanga.com/azia_kim+azia_kim&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us:

Sometimes we're up,

Sometimes we're down.

Sometimes the world goes round and round

and we don't stop to think that we have a lot in common.

A song to simply remind me to stop and learn to love those who are around me. I get too caught up in looking forward to summer and going home that I forgot to be thankful for the beautiful people God has placed into my life. I love Stanford

I am speechless.

Damn, I was just about to suggest Google cache. Good call ;-)

while she may be a victim, she is a crazy victim nonetheless.

radron---how do you have such a ridiculously smart school? do people have to test in and you guys only take people with 2400's on the SAT or whatever exam? and even if everyone who gets in is really smart...how is everyone so motivated? I know a bunch of people who are really smart, but they aren't motivated enough to study, so they don't do that well in school...

This would make an awesome movie. The guise, the friends, and the eventual fallout.

^that's a really good idea!

radronOmega,

We're ranked #1 in the world in science olympiad 2 years straight, #1 in AP courses offered, #28 in the nation academically, and 2 years ago we were ranked #1 in the WORLD in computer science.

I want to let you know your school's ranking "in the world" should be put into proper context. Out of over 200 schools in the ACSL contest, only a few schools were from Japan and Europe; others were all US/Canadian schools. So in that sense, it's hardly "international". Note that the Croatia and Romania schools had won many awards at least in the past several years even they were totally outnumbered by US/Canadian schools.

There's no such thing as "#1 in Science Olympiad in the world". The one held here is for US/Canadian (mostly US) schools. Just because it includes Canada doesn't make it international. This is not baseball for which the best team here is the best in the world. In international Olympiads (math, physics, chemistry, informatics), countries like China, Russia, Romania had frequently outperformed the US.

I think they should let her in no questions asked, not charge her any tuition, and give her free and unfettered access to all the local hospitals. Her entire lineage, too, should be automatically admitted. Anybody who questions this move should be instantly labeled a bigot.

Hey, if its good enough to the democrats, it should be good enough for stanford.

People don't take tests to live in America (and mentioning the citizenship test would be a false analogy).
That whole post was a false analogy, IMO.

Nice all or nothing mentality :P

Funny... should make a movie about it.

Vyse: Haha your my hero for posting that!

Kim is one applicant that took MIT's Marilee Jones advice to "Create your own reality." a little too seriously.

Crazy ass ho.

Actually, this has happened at Rice more than once.

Ok, after posting I read through this thread and I was completely disgusted.

I attend Troy. I've seen this girl around and was in a club with her. Lots of people knew her. To blatantly call someone mentally unfit is just rash and rude--even disrespectful. I can't believe the responses in this thread. One of my teachers, Ms. Lambert, even talked with her parents and said she was accepted into several other good schools but she did this because she was really pressured into stanford.

At Troy high, we have literally DOZENS of kids go to Ivy leagues and other top notch schools. We had 96 people accepted into UCLA this year (though a big chunk declined to attend other, more prestigious schools). We're ranked #1 in the world in science olympiad 2 years straight, #1 in AP courses offered, #28 in the nation academically, and 2 years ago we were ranked #1 in the WORLD in computer science.

We're freaks.

Troy kids face this huge pressure from our peers. Siemen award winners, Intel national finalist, and mass awards come from Troy Kids. We turn down RSI and TASP programs because Troy sets up our summers on stuff to do, and many of our kids actually attend college classes since they exceed the maximum course difficulty at Troy.

I agree that people should stop calling her a psycho, but I believe you are somewhat misinformed. The only things that people give up RSI for are Black MOP and International Olympiads. I highly doubt you could name anyone that gave up RSI for a Troy High summer program, and if anyone did, he made a bad decision.
