what did you put as your intended majors?? I'm curious what composed of the rea applicants this year. good luck to everyone, we are almost there!

I put Political Science as my first and Statistics as my second. I’d really like to do PolySci with an emphasis on Stats because I’m interested in doing independent research and analysis on American politics. Sort of like Nate Silver

Oh thats a really cool combination. personally, can’t stand either subject but you could do a lot of cool stuff with that!! what were some of your strengths in your application @tankfrank13 ?

I put engineering physics with electrical engineering as my second- as I really like the eng phys concentration but have been applying ee for most of the schools who don’t offer it, and it is a bit broader of a major and I am sure my tastes will fluctuate throughout college.

I put undeclared for all three, haha. I seriously just have no idea.

Haha it’s definitely not for everyone. I had a number of strengths, I managed a senate and congressional campaign in my county, worked on two local ballot initiatives, started a youth voting initiative, joined our local Youth Council, I really did everything I could with the opportunities presented to me in a really rural area. I also have a rec letter from a professor at the Stanford Summer Institutes, I had a really great interview, and my other rec letters, gpa, test scores, essays, etc. were all solid. I’m banking on my geographic disadvantage making a difference.

That’s awesome! I don’t know a thing about engineering but I really hope it works out for you! @nanot3ch

wow that is very impressive! wishing you the best of luck. I also had a rec letter from a prof at stanford, we were probably there around the same time! if you dont mind me asking, what is this geographic disadvantage you speak of? @tankfrank13

That’s awesome! I was there for session 1 this summer studying sociology, maybe we ran into each other! The area I’m from is about as rural and conservative as it gets, and the opportunities for anything here are really really scarce. Just a couple of APs, no research opportunities, we haven’t had anyone get into Stanford or any Ivies (or even apply) in 10 years, except for a friend of mine that got in to Stanford today through QuestBridge. They say geographic location isn’t considered but my interviewer said that he’s a major advocate for rural kids and that he would put my profile more in context when he wrote his report. @nanot3ch
