is the undergrad school separate from the graduate schools? Like- do undergrads have a separate 'campus'?..Just curious because there's a little under 7000 undergrads so i'm getting the impression that it has a small, intimate type of vibe.

Edited.................

well my son just graduated from Stanford. I can tell you undergrad and grad are on the same campus and are in many cases in the same upper division courses. My son took his first class with grad students as a Sophomore, and did just fine. The campus and classes have a small feel (even though the campus is physically huge). Sure there are a few large (125+) student intro classes (Econ 1, Psych 1, Inernational Relations, etc), but there are always sections of 12-20 taught by a grad student and profs DEFINITELTY are accessible. There can be "seminars" as small as 2 persons, and independent study is readily availablwe as well (1 on 1 with a prof)

Over 4 years my son developed close working relationships with 4 prominent professors, did research for them, and used them as sounding boards for his career aspirarions. One even came over from his graduation duties in another department to say hello, compliment him on his work, and tell him (my son) how wonderful he was. I can asure you that type of relationship is possible at Stanford, even with 7000 UG and maybe another 10,000 graduate students on campus.

Graduate housing is separate though.

ugh...i was hoping the campus wasn't physically huge but at least most junior and senior level classes are small.no?

do you know much about grade deflation at cal tech?
