Hey guys!

I'm currently choosing between Stanford and Yale. I'm hoping to study Political Science, and I want my school to have political opportunities. This would seem to lend itself to Yale. However, I've visited both, and I feel slightly more comfortable at Stanford. And even though I like Stanford better, I would like to eventually work in Washington DC (though plans may, of course, change).

If there are any current Yale students who could address this, I would really appreciate it. General comments about either school are welcome!

Thanks.

You just can’t go wrong picking either. Yale’s calendar is probably more in tune with the opportunities at DC and you’re probably likely to find more students with matching interests at Yale. Congrats and best wishes!

^^Parent2015’s point is huge. In addition to physical proximity to D.C., Yale finishes after the first week of May. Stanford is out mid-June, (but of course doesn’t go back as soon in the fall either). There might be jobs/internships available that will wait, esp. ones in the offices of congressmen and women from California, since all the UC’s are also on this quarterly schedule- but there are a lot of hungry would-be interns roaming around before that who will get a six week jump on those quarter-based students.

I have one kid at a semester school and one kid at a quarter school, by far the biggest negative the quarter one has been the mid-June end dates. We didn’t even consider that as a factor when he chose his school, but it has loomed large as a negative for summer opportunities. Fortunately he is in a sought-after field (ChemE) and has managed to secure internships every summer, but friends of his in less technical fields have really struggled.
