Stanford vs Yale Premed

Hi! There have been other posts like these but many of the Yale v Stanford ones are from a few years ago. I got information from them but I’d like some current insights. I honestly love both schools. I wanted insight on pre-med culture at each. I hear that both are quite collaborative. Should grade inflation influence my decision? I hear they are comparable in these areas. I also hear that Stanford’s advising could be better and it has a lower med school acceptance rate but this is because it doesn’t discourage unconventional applicants from applying. Can any current or recently graduated Stanford/Yale premeds offer some advice? Also, any insights on HumBio major at Stanford. If I went there I would likely do Neurobiology track through HumBio. I’m also interested in an anthropology major/minor.

Going to put my points out of order since I think people get too distracted by point 5 when point 9 is the one that people need to hear more:

@iwannabe_Brown
I’ll take this elsewhere haha. Thank you though!!

If S has a lower med school acceptance, then that may be because it’s in Calif and has a large number of Calif students.

If you don’t mind Yale’s location, then go there.

@chocodog - there is nothing wrong with Stanford premed education but many change their mind at Stanford because they find they like other things better. My daughter got into many fine medical schools this year and so did many of her good friends, despite majoring in subjects considered distinctly non-premed such as computer science.

However, her major complaint is that there is not much advising. My view is so what, that didn’t stop at least a few of your friends from getting into schools ranked 1-10.

@texaspg Are you saying that there isn’t much premed advising at Stanford? If so, why is that? too many premeds? maybe they don’t feel the pressure to have “good advising” because the UCs don’t either?

What do you think?

@mom2collegekids - I don’t know if other schools’ advisors are prepared to answer the kind of questions these kids are asking but essentially there is a certain level of discontent in going and above and beyond the general topics of what classes to take and how to plan the process. It is interesting that a guy who was attending stanford med from stanford undergrad was quoted (that is the part I have a problem with!). :slight_smile:
