Starting a Non-Profit

I want to start a non-profit for high school students preparing them for future careers after high school. How would I go about doing this? How much money would it cost? Where would I go to get permission? To those who have done this, which in CC are more than a few, what advice and help can you give me? Also, I'm a junior so would I have time before graduating high school to start this?

Thank you!

I can't think of any reason for you to do that because it would take at least a year to get nonprofit status, and by then, you'll be headed to college, presumably without much time to devote to it.

I suspect you're thinking that such an endeavor would impress colleges, but I think you could devote your time instead to things that you have more expertise in.

Presumably, you are not an expert in careers. You probably also lack contacts who are expert in careers. Why would anyone use your nonprofit when they could use high school guidance counselors, college counseling centers (which often serve the general population), as well as othe resources to accomplish the same thing?
