Starting a STEM Club, Need Advice

Hello CC! I am a rising junior looking to start a STEM Club at my school. I plan to have our Chem AP/Honors teacher mentor the club. The club will probably be one day a week at lunch, but also after school for certain occasions. I want some ideas on first, how to run a club(club government/protocols) and second, ideas on what types of activities and projects to do. My plans so far are to discuss the latest tech/research news, offer SAT2/AP Prep tutoring after school, etc.

  1. I don't know that you need a formal club government unless there is money involved. If you're just going to talk about cool science things, there's not really a need for a president. However, if you're going to be handling any money, I'd have at least a president and a vice president, and more if the club is large.
  2. At my school, clubs are also required to have some sort of service aspect. I think that's really valuable, so I'd suggest finding something vaguely science-y and volunteering or fundraising for it as a club.
  3. I don't know a lot of projects that you could do, but a really cool topic that's happening right now is organic photovoltaic cells. Google it. They're awesome.

We don’t have a stem club but we do have a science national honor society and technical honor society which they work together for science tech projects. I guess what I am saying is try to see what other clubs are doing and maybe work together on projects.

I could google “starting a STEM Club” for you, but I will leave that to you.

A friend of my D2 started a programming club. They met and taught each other coding languages.
