starting over

Basically, I'm a transfer wanting to major in musical theatre. Been through the process once but has anyone had any experience auditioning for top bfa programs as a transfer in their second year of college? I guess I'm just wondering how the whole process works when you start over in a four year bfa program.

My daughter is a transfer but we don’t know exactly where she will be placed at schools to which she is applying. She did one semester at a BFA MT program and then came home and went to a CC and got her AA. Now she is deciding where to go. She has been accepted to one BFA program that she is very interested in but would probably not be able to go in as a junior- we still have to find out if she could transfer in as a sophomore. She is waiting to hear from a BA MT program to which she could transfer as a junior. She was accepted to other BFA programs that she is not as interested in so she is not making an effort to find out where she would be placed, but we think she would probably have to go in as a sophomore or freshman. Only one BFA program to which she applied did not accept her specifically because she is a transfer- fortunately it is one she was not that interested in anyway. I have read that it is much more difficult to transfer into BFA programs. It has been our experience that it is not necessariily harder, but that you may have to start over.

Thank you very much for the info. I’m expecting it will be harder to get in a BFA as a transfer and I’m also expecting to pretty much start over. lol Good luck to your daughter!

My son (who posts as Son of Tranquil) transferred this year to UNCSA. Though not a MT program, it is a BFA Acting Program and in his class of 30 acting students there are 3 or 4 transfers. He was accepted at other schools as well so it is definitely possible to transfer. While he did have to start over as a freshman, he is extremely happy with his program and that he went through the process of re-auditioning to get to the school that was best for him. Best of luck to everyone!
