Starting own business count as work expirience?

im takin an entrepenuer class and we are required to start our own business. If its as successful as i hope ill be doing it part time in between football and family with school. as a sophmore i hope to get straight into grad school after my senior year with two years of personal expirence (which i view more valuble than sittin behind a desk entry level position)

obviously a good gpa and gmat score is important. is this common?

So you are going to put minimal hours (and effort) into a business for a couple of years and you think that is as good as someone working 40-60+ hrs a week for 3-5 years (while progressively gaining additional responsibilities)?

Good luck with that!

My guess is that it would if:

1.) You did it full-time and more.
2.) It was successful and demonstrated growth.

Entrepreneurship is probably just as good as any other path (engineering, consulting, etc.) provided you put in just as much time and have just as much success. Otherwise... not so much.

While it'll be good to write about it in your essays, work experience (be it a start-up business or a vacation job) in between your school/college years is not counted as "professional work experience".

After undergrad college, if you spent two years in working for your own business, then its a different story.

good advice thank you
