Starting to look at colleges in England?

Hey, I live in NJ and I guess until recently I haven’t considered going to school in England. I was just at a Bucknell tour and they mentioned a lot of people studying abroad in England. What if I went to England for college? The problem is, I did some research and there isn’t NEARLY as much information as American colleges. I wont be able to visit them either. I want to study Business/Marketing/Finance, preferably marketing though. Im a good student but by no means Oxford/Cambridge material. What England schools would you recommend?

Actually, there is loads of information. Start by searching for UK university rankings in the subject(s) you are interested in and then look up the universities that rank well in your subjects.

Be aware that in the UK you don’t ‘major’ in a subject: you apply to study a specific subject (or pair of subjects), and the courses are not that flexible. Every single college will have exactly what you need to get in and exactly what you will study in each course on their website. You can also google the student room which is a UK site, but I suggest you do some homework or stick to the “i’m an American threads” until you get your bearings: UK students won’t have a lot of time for questions that you can easily answer on your own.

If you liked Bucknell, I suspect you will like St Andrews best: it is practically American (you can even apply through the Common App, and not have to learn UCAS (the UK version).

Also: you apply to United Kingdom universities through UCAS. The English universities (for the subjects that you are talking about) will be 3 year courses, and the Scottish ones will be four. Not counting St Andrews, most of them do not put much emphasis on GPA or ECs- they are more interested in your standardized test scores. You will need at least 3 APs / SAT IIs in subjects that are somewhat related to the course (or type of course) you are applying to study.

@collegemom3717 thank you so much. I’ll start looking at St. Andrews. But just to clarify, when you say 3 AP’s/ SAT 2’s, do you mean 3 of each or for example one SAT 2 and 2 AP’s?

Total of 3, though some APs count as half (for example, micro +macro Econ = 1 AP).
