State University Financial Aid

Hi, i ran an online net price calculator and this is the net price that i got.

San Jose State
Transfer student
EFC = $2,500

COA = $25,414

Federal Pell Grant = $3,980
+

Cal Grant = $5,472

Net Price = $15,962

Does this mean $15,962 will need to come from me through loans and out of pocket?
Do i not qualify for any other school grant from San Jose State? =/

San Jose probably doesn’t have any grant money to give. They rely on the Cal Grant system to provide for their needy students.

The remaining costs are yours to figure out. You may need to:
borrow $5500 in fed loans
work/save over the summer to come up with a few more thousand
work part-time during the school year for “daily expenses”
be thrifty to cut down the meal plan cost
be thrifty to cut down the “personal expenses” estimate
buy used text books or rent text books to cut those costs
Your parents EFC is 2500…are they paying any of that? If not, see if they’ll give you the tuition tax credit that they’ll get in future years.

And if San Jose is still not affordable, then transfer to a CSU that you can commute to.

It is rare for a state school to provide aid for your housing or meal plan. that tends to be the responsibility of the student/family.
