Hi
I just found out that intls have to fill this in. Does anyone know the deadline for this statement (not stated)? My parents also don't know who to approach for the sponsor and notary. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks!

Because Dartmouth offers limited financial aid to international students it is important that you get your paperwork in on time.

In Dartmouth's Frequently Asked Questions for international students

it states

* If you need Dartmouth financial aid, you must also submit the International Student Financial Aid Application. The International Student Financial Aid Application will be sent with the Dartmouth application materials. These completed forms must be returned to the Admissions Office with your application or mailed directly to the Financial Aid Office.*

So the deadline for these forms are the same as the application deadline.

for international students, deadline is jan 1, but what about Canadian students? is the deadline still Jan 1?

this is only if you are applying for finaid right?

January 1

Deadline for Regular Decision Applications
Deadline for International Students Applying as First-Year Applicants

January 1 - February 1
Regular Decision Applicants register for and submit the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE and the Noncustodial Parent PROFILE if necessary to CSS
Financial Aid Applicants, including Early Decision Admitted Students to file the FAFSA with the federal processor

February 1
Deadline for Regular Decision Applicants to submit signed copies of student's and parents' tax returns and W-2's (if not completed, submit previous year's returns), and, if applicable, the noncustodial parent's and tax return and W-2's and/or the Business/Farm Supplement

Financial aid

The Canadian Financial Aid Application should be submitted by November 15, 2005, if applying for Early Decision admission or by February 1, 2006, if applying for April notification.

I think this form is required for all intls even if you're not applying for aid. The instructions are quite confusing; the form itself says tt all intls have to submit the form rgdless of whether you're applying for aid but the funny thing is tt in the appln booklet, this form is only listed under the finaid section.

yeah, i am still confused whether canadians need to fill that form in. Also, for the Jan 1 deadline for intls finaid, does that include Canadian?

I hate the system. Canadians are sometimes counted as Americans, sometimes as intls and sometimes canadians.

If you think at anytime over the next 4 years you may require FA, it is in your best interest to fill out the forms and apply for FA. If you do not have enouth $ to cover your 4 years, you willn ot be eligible for FA.

International applicants

Dartmouth College does not have enough financial aid for every talented and needy foreign applicant. Some difficult decisions must be made at the end of the international review dictated, in part, by the limited budget for foreign nationals. Apply for financial aid if you anticipate the need for it during any point in your time at Dartmouth, but do not apply for Dartmouth aid if your family has the resources to pay for all four years of undergraduate education. Canadian citizens, Mexican citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents, and U.S. citizens living overseas are reviewed without the constraints of a limited financial aid budget.** Please remember that once you are admitted as a non-financial aid candidate, you will not be eligible for financial aid at any point in your Dartmouth career.**

regarding Canadian applicants:

Canadian Applicants
Canadian students should complete and submit the following documents directly to Dartmouth, entering all information in Canadian dollars.

2006-2007

2006-2007 Canadian First-Year & Transfer Application

Statement of Financial Responsibilityb. **

Copies of all pages of the student's and parents' 2005 Canadian tax returns, including corporation or partnership returns, if applicable. Submit 2004 returns if 2005 returns are not yet completed.
2006-2007 Business/Farm Supplement, if parents are self-employed.
If your family lives and works in the U.S., in addition to completing the Canadian Application, please follow the instructions for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents with the exception of filing the FAFSA.

Fin Aid is different for internationals (Int'l = non-Canadian or Mexican, without citizenship or permanent residence in US). If you want to have any chance of being admitted submit your Fin Aid forms on time. If you don't, they will think that you're going to need money (even if you don't) and then you have to fight for one of the few spots open for intl's who need money.

Wait, so what's the verdict for Canadians?
Do I have to submit the statement by Jan 1? Or later?

from post # 5

The Canadian Financial Aid Application should be submitted by November 15, 2005, if applying for Early Decision admission or** by February 1, 2006, if applying for April notification**

Thanks sybbie!

1) thanks sybbie for all the info!
2) it says on the website that The Canadian Financial Aid Application should be submitted by February 1, 2006, but doesn't say the deadline for statement of responsibility. Do you think it is ok to send the SoR with the CFAA on Feb 1?

Yes, if you have your SOR, send it in by 2/1 with the rest of your information.

for the statement of responsibility, who do we need for the "notary", i.e. a lawyer? Also, isn't the statement of responsibility due AFTER the acceptance letters arrive?

Former SI: are you saying that if I don't need FA, I still have to fill in FA forms as an intl? Or is it the FA forms that you're referring is only the statement of financial responsibility? Other colleges don't seem to have this FA requirement for intls who don't require FA.
I've already submitted my statement of financial responsibility-should be good enough?
Lucky: I got an accountant to sign as the notary. I suppose a lawyer is fine too. Yeah it seems possible that this statement is due after we get accepted but again I didn't find any clear instructions on that so I just submitted it anyway.

your statement of financial responsibility is saying to Dartmouth how much you WILL pay each year for SURE, thus "responsibility". so that's why the notary signature is required, to tell the college how much you ARE paying.

I still don't know when to send it in, but i think i'll end up sending in the Canadian app on Feb 1 and then submitting the SoR after i am accepted :D

No, you don't have to fill out the financial aid forms, but you do need to submit the statement of financial responsibility. Hopefully, it makes them feel confident that you could afford to pay for the entire 4 years.

so who's submitting the statement of financial responsibility after the fatty letter too?
