Statistics or calculus?

Which should you take first? Calculus 1 first or statistics 1 first in college?

depends on what you want to do.

What if your undecided but plan on doing science related major?

My advice would be to get calculus out of the way. if you're weak in math, then immediately get a tutor to help you through the class. I don't think that one can be a science major without passing calculus, so you might as well get it over early. Statistics is a much easier course, so you could do that afterward.

Presumably, too, you've taken calculus in h.s. so should take it early in college while you still remember your h.s. experience. It is virtually essential for science majors to have taken calculus in h.s. If for some reason it won't fit into your schedule, you need to take it over the summer before college. College calculus goes much faster than does even AP calculus in h.s., so if you don't take h.s. calculus, you'll be so far behind your classmates that you may not be able to catch up.

I've taken both calculus and statistics, and don't feel that statistics is much easier! Maybe, it depends on the school and on the teacher. However, if you are going into science, you will definitely need calculus. If you are going into business or humanities, you will need statistics and some programs also require calculus. Frankly, if you need both,I would take calculus first since pre-calculus is hopefully fresh in your mind from high school. Statistics is very different from most of high school math, with the exception of algebra. It can be taken anytime.

Calculus sounds very important.

yes i say calculus.

definately calculus. I've taken ap calc and stat, and stat was muuuch harder for me. calculus is clear, logical, no ambiguity, pretty much the same type of situation (derivative or integral). stat though needs interpretation and deciding which test is best, etc, when several could fit your needs. it felt more like an english class than math

For everday usefulness I would say stats by a mile.
