This year, the College received 4,569 applications for freshman admission, up from 4,410 last year. This is the fifth straight year that the College has received more than 4,300 applications for freshman admission. This year's acceptance rate was 48%. Less than 150 colleges nationally admit less than half of their applicants; the College has been among those 150 for the past 11 years.</p>
<p>This year "we made significant strides with our diversity initiatives," says Hooker-Haring. The Class of 2014 is the most ethnically diverse incoming class in the College's history. 12% of first year students identify as students of color, up from 9.1% last year and 8.2% two years ago. 43% of the entire first year population is male and 57% is female, mirroring the national demographics of 18-year-old college students. </p>
<p>At the point of admission, the top three intended majors of first year students were theatre, biology, and psychology. Other popular majors included business, English, and Media & Communications. Their verbal, math, and writing sections of the SATs averaged 617, 615, and 617, respectively. This is up from 604, 606, and 609 respectively last year.
