I’ve been looking all over Rice’s website for some information about where students work, what their starting salary is, and what internships they get based on major. I can’t find anything and am wondering if any of you knew of any reliable sites. I don’t like getting this information from places other than the university’s website because they don’t seem as reliable.
Check out http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/research/files/reports/2015/04/29-college-value-add/bmpp_collegevalueadded.pdf. This is a statistical research paper prepared by the Brookings Institute regarding mid-career earnings. As such it is probably more reliable than the data a university presents to market itself. This analysis is extremely quantifiable and Brookings has fully set forth its analytical methodology. On page 15 there is a chart listing the top four year colleges with the highest value-added by mid-career earnings. There are a lot of colleges you wouldn’t expect along with some you would. This doesn’t answer the questions you raise about where students work or initial starting salary. Nonetheless, mid-career earnings are arguably more important because they reflect on relative success in a career, not initial starting pay in a job that may not last. Of course, any analysis is affected most by what field you enter. That is a layer of complexity beyond what Brookings has.
