Stay in UCSC or go to CC then transfer to UCLA in Design/Media?

hey everyone I would really appreciate that I get a response as soon as possible. So to start off, UCSC is the only uc i’ve been accepted to but I really wanted to go to UCLA but I got denied. I want to go to UCLA for their Design | Media Arts major but I decided to change my major at the last minute and clicked on English as my only major with no alternative. I did this because I know that I had to submit a portfolio but I didn’t have time back then now I regret it. UCSC does have an interesting major (Art and Games Playable Media) but location is part of the problem that makes me want to stay in la. I’ve been doing research and people say that community college is a good option and then transfer to UCLA (and I can save money plus there’s a community college just down the street from where I live) but I’m thinking of my long term goal: go to UCLA > get a job/internship focusing on Character Designing/Animation/Graphic Design > work for Disney Animation/Pixar/etc… So it comes down to this: should I go to community college then transfer to UCLA for design major or continue with UCSC then UCLA? please help.

It is so, so much easier to go to UCLA from a CCC than a UC. Get to a CC that has a TAP program and get a High GPA+ major related ECs.

Going the CCC route will not impede your chances with Disney, although you could also transfer from UCSC. It will come down to your talent.

I just finished my freshman year at Cal Poly Pomona and am planning on going to a community college my sophmorre year to transfer to a UC as a cc transfer. I’ve looked at assist.org and I only need one more CS class to transfer and will be completing the IGETC. Is it possible to transfer from csu to cc to uc? And would I be able to tag?

@keepcool - you should start your own thread - that is a very different questions.

For the OP - you kinda tubed yourself and now get to live with the consequencies. I would stick with UCSC and try to transfer. as a Jr if you’ve kept your grade high and are still interested.

Play around with those tools and you’ll see the transfer acceptance rate for people from UCSC targeting UCLA is about 33%, That’s markedly better than well regarded CCs like SMC and SBCC… The other one will show you the GPA by major for each major at each UC. Both should be helpful assessing your chances and path forward.
Good luck

@KeepItCool yes, it’s possible. Yes you can Tag as long as you complete 30+ units at CCC I believe. But yes start your own thread if you want more info.

@NCalRent - I’m not sure if I did this right but I used the first link that you sent me (admissions by source school) for transfer acceptance rate from UCSC to UCLA and I got 15% whereas the rate from LAVC to UCLA is 37%. So, it’s probably better to stay and go to LAVC then transfer.

Acquire 30+ semester units at CCC and you’ll be considered a CCC transfer as opposed to a UC one so you’ll get a slight advantage

@KeepItCool yes, please start a new thread as this one is about UCLA. Just cut and paste your question into a new discussion. Thx!
