Sticker shock

First child heading to college and decides on a dance career. choices are are financial aid

NYC at 35000/yr
Midwest at 30000/ yr
Philly at 15000/ yr

Because of the career path heading to Philly with a bus pass to NYC on the weekends

I can totally relate to you in this situation. Although my dancing daughter is only a HS junior this year we experienced the same situation with my music major oldest daughter when she was a HS senior (she is now a college junior). It was heartbreaking to have to tell her that NYU was not in the financial cards for her. I am expecting that my dancing DD will face a similar situation next year when spring rolls around.

I think in the case of the dancing kid it is even more difficult. Whereas my oldest DD was planning on getting an education degree as well, the future employment prospects with a dance degree are a little more of a gray area. Even now I (and maybe you as well) debate the feasibility of even going to college vs pounding the bricks, waiting tables, and taking classes. So many difficult life choices at such a young age!
