Still in the 60s on my writing :P

So I've been doing a lot of practice problems dealing with identifying sentence errors and I found two subjects I'm usually failing (I got 7 wrong out of 35..)

It is sequence of tenses:

EVER SINCE the QUALITY OF teacher education came under public scrutiny, suggestions for UPGRADING the profession ARE ABOUNDING.

Answer: D

In 1986, the nuclear disaster of Chernobyl HAS AROUSED intense speculation ABOUT the long-term EFFECTS OF radiation that continued for THE BETTER PART OF a year

Answer: A

ANNDDDDD I suck at pronoun cases:

i (WILL) (ALWAYS) remember (YOU) (STANDING BY) me offering me encouragement.

Answer: C

Avid readers generally either admire OR dislike Ernest Hemingway's journalistic STYLE OF writing; few had no opinion OF HIM.

Answer: D

If you can, please explain a easy way to avoid these mistakes? Thank you! (:

needs to be “has abounded.” Whenever you see “since” keep your eyes peeled for a tense error.

needs to be “aroused.” Whenever you see a date, such as “in 1786,” keep your eyes peeled for a tense error.

needs to be “your.” This type of error is pretty rare, and it is called “possessive with gerund.” Essentially whenever there is a -ing word, you need to use a possessive with it.

EX: Your being here is important to me.

needs to be “of his writing.” Illogical comparison

Thank you. Anyway I can avoid and/or spot this error faster?
