My child's grandfather has opened a custodian brokerage account in my name, and has purchased a share of a few different stocks. They are not worth very much, but i am not sure if I should change how the account is set up. I read here about how retirement accounts protect stocks from being considered for financial aid purposes. Is this true? If so,can I open a retirement account if my child is not working (currently soph year of high school)? Thank you, I am new to this whole college/financial aid process.
