Stokes Education Scholarship and Internship Program

Hi, I recently applied for the NSA Stokes Education Scholarship and I was wondering if any of you have applied. I read another thread on this site about it but that was from 2005 or so and I wanted to get some more recent feedback. First of all, I wanted to know what your "stats" are? Here's my basic resume:

SAT: 570 Reading 590 Math 610 Writing
ACT: 21 Reading 24 English 25 Science 27 Math
AP: Art History, European History and US Government
IB: English HL, Math SL, Chemistry SL, Biology HL, History HL, Theory of Knowledge and French SL
Eagle Scout, Co-Captain of National Academic League, French Club, Fencing and DECA
Over 100hrs of service

My SAT/ACT scores are all over the place and I was wondering how closely the NSA looks at this?
Anyone know when we will be hearing back?

My son applied for the Stokes also. I don’t think they notify people until late February, however I don’t know where I heard this or read it/ Good luck to youas it looks like a wonderful opportunity.

Cool! Best luck to him too! Hope he isn’t too much competition for me! wink wink
Agree, this opportunity could work wonders for me! A lot of my other scholarships have fallen through and I am getting really frustrated, so hopefully at least one of us will be selected as a semifinalist. Let me know if you find anything more out. :)

Hey! there’s another thread called NSA Stokes’ 2010 - it’s for this year!

My resume looks like this:

ACT: 31. No SAT.

AP: Biology, Statistics
Honors:Geometry, Algebra, Algebra 2, Spanish 2 and 3, choir, English, history, etc.
College Classes: English (3 literature classes), Political Science, pre calculus, Mythology, Philosophy (Ethics and Logic), International Relations, Music (I’m a music major in addition to International relations) and multiple world classes, involving religion, genocide, etc.

Extras: Ice Skating, National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America, Student Government, employment, choir, drama, Volunteer (Festival at Sandpoint, multiple playhouses. I’m either security, usher, or performer.). Outreach performer, Resident Assistant, swing/ballroom Dancing.

I’m only including my schooling from my senior year up to the day I turned 18. Sorry if It’s not enough. :-)

Anyway, I do a lot of things. I like to stay active, and other languages is cool. I actually learn a lot about the world through my music, which is a huge reason why I keep it (it’s actually harder than any of my other majors). I think they look more for a candidate that they think will do well. Intelligence is important, but open minded - ness is too. I’m sure you’ll do great! Good luck! We should hear back mid February.

Wow, you sure get around! What did you say you were applying for (I am applying for Computer Science). Wish my ACT was that high, that @#()$*@#! test has screwed me over a couple of times now, lol.
You ice skate? I used to do that too! I was actually skated in the 2002 olympics. Although, I quit because I totally forgot my program lol. Ice skating is probably the hardest sport I have ever done. I was kind of embarrassed because ice skating is a girly sport, so everyone made fun of me, but I am a girly guy in many aspects now anyways. Now I do fencing in my spare time.
It would be awesome if we both went to Maryland! Hope to see you there.
Best of luck!!!

that’s awesome! yeah, I don’t compete…I fell on my head last year. been kind of afraid of jumps ever since. I’ve already lost my photographic memory - it’s only eidetic now. I actually have to concentrate to remember :frowning: I’m applying for the languages division. I like to keep busy. when I’m doing 5 million things at once, I actually function better than trying to concentrate on one thing at a time. good luck!
