<p>No, there is a lovely town just beyond that. There are inexpensive as well as pricier restaurants there. The stores are not really student oriented, though, but the atmosphere is very picturesque. A really short bus ride takes you to Port Jefferson which is a more student type town with all sorts of affordable and fun options including a health food cafe.</p>
<p>Then just a little further on a bus in the opposite direction is a huge mall.</p>
<p>The town of Stony Brook, north of the railroad strip, is walkable on a a good day.</p>
